(I looked around for a college soccer thread on the Crew boards, and was pretty disheartened not to find one. Merge this one with an previously created thread, if there was one.) Caleb Porter is a coaching genius.
You have no idea how much I wish Nebraska would start a men's soccer program. If they had that and ice hockey, I would be in hog heaven.
Re: Crew @ Seattle Sounders, 8/27 Still doesn't change that loss on your Zip National Champion t-shirt . Come play CSU at Krenzler again, where you'll be surrounded by bus station hobos and broken glass, instead of a couple thousand bandwagon-joining drunk college kids. Is that obnoxious enough for you? bozo
Live Streaming for Akron's matches can be found here: http://www.mac-sports.com/Schools/Akron/LiveStreaming.aspx Also, two Akron regular matches will be on FoxSoccer: http://www.gozips.com/sports/msoc/2011-12/releases/20110801sqknfd
I am expecting a down (by Akron standards) season for the Zips this year. Don't think Caleb is has happy with his roster as he has in the past few seasons.
Re: Crew @ Seattle Sounders, 8/27 Good Lord, what's this all about? CSU did a tremendous job last year while Akron dicked around for whatever reason. Full credit to them - last year. I really had no idea what sort of team CSU would have this year, but I certainly thought they'd put up a much better fight. If Krenzler has hobos and broken glass (and it most certainly does), then what's CSU's excuse for conceding 5 goals (4 in the first half)? And the bandwagon comment? Come on. The first home match is ALWAYS very well-attended, and the couple thousand season ticket holders most certainly are NOT college students (nor are the bulk of the crowds). And for the record, it's not the team that's obnoxious so much as it is the parents. Speaking of traveling fans, it's 40 miles and that's all you could muster? Ohio State will probably bring at least a couple hundred, which will create an interesting problem for the staff.
I never in a million things thought that those two things would be merged. Shows you what I know. Is that like a league comprised of scrapbooking moms playing hockey against one another? At the collegiate level, nonetheless?
Ya for those who don't follow it I understand ... its changing a bit like collage baseball(maybe the last 20-25 years) in a way guys are sticking around and the standard is better you play competitive hockey and you get a education... the Frozen Four is as entertaining an event as any in collage sports.
I think they were taking a subtle approach to "college." So my Captain Obvious image from Non Sequiter won't stick...just go here. Man...
Re: Crew @ Seattle Sounders, 8/27 Speaking of transportation... During halftime, the announcers said that that the Cleveland Airport (CLE) is a sponsor of which team.... Akron soccer. Even your airport supports the Zips!
If you want to talk about the Zips, you should talk about how they're going to lose to the UNM Lobos on September 16th.

WOW. Kenyon got better. What happened to Denison? They were always OWU rivals. Interesting bit of trivia for you d3 followers: I was in the stands for a major fight between OWU and Wittenberg about four years back. The OWU players in the field and the Wittenberg team went at it, but the OWU players stayed on the bench due to Jay Martin and his trusty death stare.
Dr. Martin was my club coach growing up. I've never seen anyone command the respect of a bunch of unruly pre-teens and teenagers as that man did. Even an ignorant adolescent picks up on that- you do what Jay Martin says.
