For a person who recently graduated Penn St. and grew up watching Syracuse this BCS season holds very little interest for me :)

Iowa-Freakin Refs stole that one away from us
Ohio St - Freakin Chris Gamble and Zach Mills worst game ever
Florida St. - watch a game featuring the man attemptiing to catch JoePa?

Actually in all honesty the BCS seems to have 3 games and a blow that I can't for to happen (yes FSU getting stomped!!). OSU - Miami could turn into a blow if OSU can't get first downs though and is forced into a 3rd and distance

Oh bull. The refs tried their damndest to give you that game, they didn't take it away. Paterno needs to learn to keep his mouth shut and lose like a man.

I only watched a portion of the game. Just couldn't hold my interest. Too bad also. The Rose Bowl is usually my favorite bowl game to watch.

I thought the Rose Bowl was still going to be Big 10 versus Pac 10 in non-championship years. Can anybody clear this up for me?

that's what I thought but I think since OSU went to the Fiesta Bowl the Rose Bowl didn't have to be a Big Ten vs. Pac Ten.

As soon as somebody can explain how the "new and improved" BCS works, they'll be able to explain why the Rose Bowl didn't feature Big 10 v Pac 10.

    In other words, no.

    :)

Its something to do with Ohio State going to the Fiesta Bowl, and because of that the Big 10 takes one of the at-large BCS spots. Then I believe that the Orange Bowl has the first pick of the teams it wants, which explains why Iowa went there.

    Pretty darn close.

In non-championship years the Rose Bowl has their usual conference tie ins, rather than the "drafting" method the other BCS bowls use. However if a Big Ten or Pac-10 team is #1 or #2 (and thus not playing in the Rose Bowl) the bowl gets a "draft pick" equal to the BCS ranking of the displaced team. For example, OSU was #2... so they picked second behind the Orange Bowl (who was missing normally-affiliated Miami - #1). Had OSU been BCS ranked #1, we'd have an Iowa-Washington State matchup. However, had Iowa not qualified for a BCS at-large bid, it still wouldn't have been Big Ten v Pac-10.

As it was, the Rose Bowl was apparently lobbying the Orange Bowl to not pick Iowa (and instead choose Oklahoma), but without success.

My understanding - and this is where things are sketchy for me - is that the Orange Bowl used some obsure once-every-four-years "trump" card to jump in the order and pick USC as well. The "at-large" bids clearly didn't one-for-one replace the conference tie-ins, because Oklahoma was an automatic qualifier.

Since I know nothing about college football, predictions:

    Iowa 17
    USC 45

    OSU 14
    Miami 37

Really though, FSU lost, so that's good enough for me.

I get it, now...Since Ohio State plays Miami for the national championship and the Orange Bowl got first pick of who was playing there, the Rose Bowl was Pac 10 versus whoever was the choice of who's left for the Rose Bowl people to pick.

    Thanks!

Sorry! I said Orange Bowl when I meant Fiesta Bowl. But I have another question, now...Why isn't the Orange Bowl played in the Orange Bowl?

C.J. Jones takes the kickoff up the left side for a Hawkeye Touchdown!

The Orange Bowl moved, I think, for $$$ concerns. More seats, suites, you name it.

    38-17 USC Win

    Iowa scored:
    1 touchdown on Special Teams
    1 Touchdown in Garbage Time

USC proved they are a well-oiled machine.

Iowa proved they were basically a fluke.

The defense was rock solid despite Polamalu being hurt. They're the only team that plays D in the PAC-10. Norm Chow's game plan was brilliant. He spent the entire 1st half setting Iowa up for the kill. They also proved how multi-dimensional they are. Huggy Bear Jr. and Sultan stepped up big time against Iowa's vaunted rush defense.

Despite Carson leaving, USC has good reserves who can step up next year, and some of the top recruits classes in the country. Watch out, Pete Carroll is building a powerhouse program.

At this point I really would want to see USC match-up with Miami.

It's a great night to be a Trojan.

Yeah, ever tried parking a car near the Orange Bowl?
I have, for a Gold Cup match. But it's even more fun getting out of the neighborhood when you don't know your way around.

I'm surprised the bowl game didn't move north sooner.

Depends what you mean by that word. It has been a while since they played there. They thought about moving it back actually for some reason, but that died a while ago.

I have been to the Orange Bowl but each time it was within walking distance from the hotel. Never had a problem.

I just am sooooo not ready to start hearing how USC is the best team, they should be playing Miami, how we need a playoff system, etc...

By no means do I think USC deserves to be in the national championship game. Just hypothetically speaking, I think it would be a great game to see, USC vs. Miami. It'd probably be a lot more interesting than tomorrow's game is going to be.

Oh, I know the game has been at Joe Robbie for a while now, but given the amount of money involved and the high profile, I thought it would be a no brainer. That's all.
But I can see the appeal of Orange Bowl (the venue) since it's easily accessible from South Beach and the airport. I just don't think it's fit for a big event like a BCS game.

I wonder if Trev Alberts is going to backpeddle from his gushing love of everything Iowa now.

That was quite a performance by USC. I think Iowa was hurt by playing their last game the 16th of November. Banks timing was off and also credit USC for rushing him.

Agreed about USC versus Miami. Think about the fact that this was supposed to be a real close game.

There was a lot of woofing a few weeks ago about Ohio State's and Miami's strength of schedule. So how did their opponents do in the bowls?

    OSU
    ---
Texas Tech won big over Clemson 55-15
Wiscosin beat a good Colorado team 31-28
    Minnesota beat Arkansas 29-14
    Purdue beat Washington 34-24
    UofEM beat Florida 38-30

Washington State lost big to Oklahoma 34-14
Cincinnati lost to North Texas 24-19
Penn State lost of Auburn 13-9

Another game to consider here is Iowa's poor performance against USC. OSU didn't play Iowa, but they are from the same conference.

    Miami
    -----
Boston College beat an over-matched Toledo team 51-25
Pitt won big over Oregon State 38-13
Virginia Tech beat Air Force 20-13

    Florida lost to Michigan 38-30
Florida State lost badly to Georgia 26-13
    WVU lost to UVA 48-22
Tennessee was embarassed by Maryland 30-3
