Scheduling is much more important on deciding RPI and NCAA invites, if you don't schedule smart it really doesn't matter who or how much talent you have on your team.
Our team is Red hot, our team is Red hot, Your team is Brown, your team is Brown. They should give me a call!
It really is a disgrace to go so long without a coach - probably trying to save money and not paying a head coach or paying double with Scales resignation. I would think administration's approach to soccer may be part of the reason the program has gone down over the years. New coach beware!
National Youth Boys Coach of the Year Isang Jacob of Indy Burn taking over as Assistant Coach with Barry Gorman at Penn State. Great hire for the Lions. Quality technician and teacher and class guy. Good Luck my friend.
Dayton Daily News reports that four including David Wall are on the short list for Wright State...any comment. Wall is the current assistant there so that one is kind of easy to figure out.
Wall only has one fall as Mike Tracy' assistant---- the other 3 have to have a better shot! They have taken so long now without a coach if they wanted him it would be his already. Finely interviews’ this week, for the kids sake I hope they get it right and hire a coach with a big program background and experience!
Wright State, Wrong School...if they are smart they will get someone with a proven background, UDayton did that and now things are on the up there. Any word on the other candidates? My guess is WSU will make the easy hire and the Asst, Wall, will get the nod. He has a great background in playing but virtually no experience at the college level...should be interesting!
Good day everybody. I am from Germany and played professional soccer many years. I attended Coaching licences in England and Germany and Coaching since almost 30 years. I have a question which we Coaches in Germany ask each other and never found the correct answer. Why does US Colleges and Universities seek Soccer Coaches with Bachelors or Masters degree? Soccer is not a School sport, it is a street sport. This means a talent have to practice at least many hours p. day to compete the world. How many İnternational Coaches with success you know with Bachelors or even High School Diplomas? I would appreciate if you give me a logical and acceptable answer. Thank you.
College is technically supposed to be about education in the classroom first and the heads of the universities want the staff to reflect that. Basically, it's for show. That's about as simple as I can explain it.
Some colleges do make exceptions with the degree requirement, especially for assistants. I'm pretty sure George Tarantini doesn't have a degree, or at least he didn't have one when he was hired at NC State. I don't think Clive Charles had a degree when Portland hired him. Often the school is willing to make an exception if the coach will pursue his degree while working at the school. I know Bill Irwin earned his degree while he was Charles' assistant at Portland and after Charles passed he replaced him.
Thank you for your answer but unfortunately we are not satisfied. Show is a business and does not fit into education facilities. Education facilities educate people and make better people. Soccer is something different than education. It is something with talent and practice. I am sure you know the names such as Maradona, Pele, Beckenbauer, Zidane, Platini and hundreds of them, most had never opportunity to study even High School because they were talented and had to practice to compete the world, which they did. If you believe that Colleges and Universities have soccer just to have fun, then dont you think that it is a very expensive fun? Soccer should be turned over to private Professional, Amateur and Youth clubs and not educational facilities. This is ofcourse our (European) desicion because this way we proved to have success.
I was trying to keep the response as simple as possible and I still will. Soccer is typically a non-revenue sport and an afterthought. Leaders want the athletic program and those involved to reflect the standards of the school for the big donors. There are different routes to go for development in sports. College is one. Clubs not affiliated with schools still exist and offer options, but college is just one route that has become a part of development in the US for most sports.
Thank you for your answer Sir. Yes we know that Colleges and Universities are best places to play soccer in th USA because they have all the possiblities and much more than private amateur and youth clubs. Private clubs does not even have showers for the players for after practises and after games. Am I right? Soccer is absolute number 1 sport in this Planet. This is reality. Almost 3/4 of the world are interested and involved in Soccer. Dont you believe that US should make some reforms to promote better Soccer in the US?
We are way off the topic of this thread with this line of discussion. But you have to realize something... what percentage of all kids who play soccer in college end up making soccer their profession? 1% maybe - that is generous. So those other 99% of the kids who play in college, they need an education so that they can graduate and get a job. The US should not change their whole system to better suit that 1%, that is why there is such an emphasis on education. And even those who do make it pro to USL or MLS, if lucky, will play for 12 years making 40k a year. They still will need their education, because at that rate, they are not retiring from soccer with much money and will need to find a job.
Yes it will. Pretty soon we'll become a socialist society that only works 37.5 hours a week, has a standard health care system that allows any citizen to go to any hospital of their choice, a place where dump trucks full of money will no longer be pulling up to financial institutions dumping taxpayer money off to inbred MBA's that just can't understand why their derivative investments never came to fruition, we'll be given the entire month of August off, with pay, to enjoy with our families at a nice seaside resort, men will no longer be wearing shorts, except on the soccer pitch, election campaigning will only be six weeks long (not two years), and each candidate will be allowed to spend exactly the same amount of money on advertising, confederate flags will be banned, SUV's will only be able to be purchased by people whom can actually hit a whiffle ball before entering the veichle, women's billards will no longer be allowed to be shown on any sports network, Vietnamese ex-patriates will no longer be allowed to enter any poker championships, guys claiming to speak to the space god will no longer have any of their income exempt from taxes, "Dancing with the Stars" will be canceled. It would be chaos.
Interesting as this nonsense is - perhaps the new soccer coach at Cornell may actually be of greater interest to people. I'll let those wanting to know take a look for themselves on the Cornell site as I don't want to be accused of getting this thread back on track. Great job as ever moderators.
http://cornellbigred.com/index.aspx?tab=soccer&path=msoccer For those of us not taking Big Soccer so seriously.
Boy this guy has been tearing it up the last six years and before that rode the "team that Bobby built" at Stanford. Weird hire...never heard of him. I also looked at their womens coach who was recently a local hire with nothing to write home about. I can see him calling his mentor Brett Simon and saying "oh no what do you do when you have to actually coach your own team and you dont walk into a loaded team that was laid out for you ," and Brett saying "I dont know Im still trying to figure that out myself." I am amazed that an Ivy job with Arena and Sarachan as alumns could not find a a better coach.....or am I missing soemthing?
You might be missing something, but time will tell... Jaro is a good guy and whether you like what Brett has done on the farm or what Dean has done in Syracuse, Stanford and Syracuse on your resume ain't bad. Especially to administrators that don't typically know much about much let alone soccer. My guess is that he'll do well... but again time will tell.
Cornell could save money on their relocation package with the hire. Any college program that waits four months for a coach needs to be questioned.
In these economic times, it is my guess, that most schools will not hire any (non-football/basketball) staff until their next fiscal year begins?
I dont see anything wrong with socialist society. With 37,5 hors a week working Europe is still financially strong but with 50 hours or 5 hours working a week USA is bankrupt. This is not me telling you that but the whole world including US Press.
