There were a lot of moves this past year. I don't know much about the women's side, but if I had to answer the questions about the men it would go as follows: College Coaching Changes Who was the best new hire in men's college soccer Obviously Jeremy Gunn - Stanford Which first-year men's coach will have the biggest challenge this season? Kenny Arena - Florida International Last year Elmar Bolowich took Creighton to the College Cup in his first season. Which first-year coach could have a similar run in 2012? Kevin Langan - Charlotte
Stan Anderson named assistant coach under Eitz at Loyola of Chicago. A good catch for Loyola, Stan is a good man and a great coach.
Without a doubt, building a program at FIU is a big challenge, but Arena has a few years before anyone expects him to deliver. In contrast, Gunn and Chaka Daley at Michigan face more pressure to hit the ground running. Not sure what to say about the clowns at TDS who talked about the difficulty of replacing a "legend" like Manny Schellscheidt. The real challenge at Seton Hall is fixing the basketcase of a program Schellscheidt left behind.
Let's face it, Manny did some wonderful things for that program but it was time for him to move on. They have access to a lot of solid players in the tri-state area and still play in the Big-East. It'll be interesting to see if Arena is able to bring over some Galaxy Academy players over to FIU to help build that up. He certainly knows talent.
Another coaching change coming in Richmond. Probably staying one step ahead of the posse after three years and a 15-35-4 record. No real progress made at Richmond in the last three years http://www.richmondspiders.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=26800&ATCLID=205540617
Talk about timing. Think about whoever gets this job with 6 days to go until preseason camp... How about the incoming Freshmen, they must be thrilled!
Follow up on Richmond coaching change. http://www.richmondspiders.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=26800&ATCLID=205569813
