I disagree. He'll get sub minutes. Sahin needs a turbo charge. The table looks very bad for Dortmund. I haven't watched Dortmund much this season; they say here and there that Sahin is on the hot seat. Leipzig will visit Dortmund on Saturday. It doesn't look good. As far as trust is concerned, Dortmund vets are well prepared to deal with starlets introduced to the senior team early because that is what Dortmund do. A perceived lack of trust in Cole's debut is normal; it was no different with Pulisic. Kagawa shepherded Puli thru his early days. Pulisic went back to reserves to learn how to do some little, routine things after his debut then popped up back on the senior team in due course looking much better. Pulisic was only 17 iirc. Cole is a little older and better than Pulisic in terms of ball handling - look at the way he dribbles down the touch line in his debut. He is faster than Pulisic. Sahin will want to see the extent of improvement and enlargement in Cole's game over a short period when the most improvements occur over the debut. How far can Cole go? Let's see. A call up in November doesn't have to sidetrack that. Poch may have some good tips for Cole/Sahin - after all, they have a common interest in Cole's future. Everyone does. Germany, England, Ecuador, Spain, Colombia...name a club and their fans will always love a player gives their all when it comes to effort. True for any sport to be honest. I am not sure this trait is just a trait for English fans to claim.
Yes and no. In some cultures, high effort players are viewed as lacking skill. Other cultures view them as supportive players for more influential glamor players. People in Colombia aren’t clamoring for James to become a ball hawk. The same can be applied to guys like Ozil, Messi, Mbappe, etc. We see the same thing in other sports like the NBA where guys who score aren’t always expected to play as much defense or in the NFL where some skill position players (like WR’s ) aren’t expected to be high quality blockers. Yes, there are guys whose excellence earns respect because they put effort into the dirty work (like Michael Jordan or NFL receivers like Rod Smith who were also good blockers), but that is not always valued in soccer in certain cultures.

That guy had the best comprehensive passing stroke I have ever seen in person by a long shot. I saw him practice and warm up and his routine was ridiculous. He could put every form of english on the ball at literally every distance he hit it, and we’re talking up to 60-70 yards, and he’d drop it on a dime every time. His routine was very professional. He was a serious player with serious skill.
In the context of Beckham and the English fan, this made him more respectable because he was literally a glamor player doing the dirty work. It’s a sign that he has good work ethic and some sense of moral responsibility, which proved to be true in Beckham’s case.
Sabitzer and Beier both came off today injured, so may make even more space for him to get PT. Besides Donyell Malen, every single other player on the bench was a Dortmund II player with a combined 2 first team appearances. The bench depth is getting diabolically low.
It's a shame we have to keep saying this. The good thing is he doesn't seem to have an obvious injury like JOB that will impact him forever. He seems more of the pick up am assortment of differing injuries and like Adams comes back to quickly while recovering to get more injuries. I always like to think players like this search out the expert trainers that have worked with other players like this but sports egos may be the biggest there are so who knows?

Great to see him get minutes indeed. But… we have yet to see a single “oh wow he belongs” moment in his minutes given. Dortmund is a great cultivator of young talent and surely they’re looking beyond major stats, but he needs to make more of his upcoming chances.
I don't agree. The team is under pressure; they are skating on thin ice. What Dortmund wants to see is a player who understands his assignment in close games - which is every game for Dortmund with the way they have been playing lately. Cole came on for a debut in the 88' mark v. Augsburg and played 10 minutes, already down 1-2. He came on in the next game, pokal v. Wburg at 77' mark and played extra time as well and put in an ok shift - 6/7 ground duels, 1 chance created, etc. Next he came on late v. Leipzig because Dortmund was ahead 2-1 - still, it looks like they trust him to close out game. Teammates are bound to be wary in that situation and he literally scored -0- in events on fotmob because he played 1 minute and never touched the ball. Next up was UCL Sturm Graz where he was subbed in at 77' and he touched the ball 2 times. Nuff said for that one. Dortmund were looking to close out a 1-0 lead which they did. Baby steps for baby. There's nothing wrong in that. The kid's got game and just needs reps to show it.
Even if he doesn't break into the first team RIGHT NOW, he's in a good spot at this age. As long as he stays healthy, we might finally get an answer to the question "what would've happened if Joe Gyau hadn't blown up his knee on international duty"
Joe Jow is a pretty good parallel. He showed some promise (not Gio or CP level), but got his chances due to injury. And yea, we don't know how that would have played out. So far, if people are being honest, it's been a struggle for Campbell. This last game all he did on the ball was a speculative backheel to the opponent. Anticipation hasn't been there. He's probably nervous. But we can only evaluate what we see & he's got to play better if he's to be used when they get healthy. Then, maybe they'd attempt integration at a later date, or send him out on loan.
for sure, but I don't think Joe Gyau would've been a Pulisic. When I say "he's in a good spot at this age" I'm not implying that he's in a good spot to become the next Pulisic, I mean he's in a good spot to have a decent and productive career in Europe's top-flights. Lots and lots of good players have failed to break through at Dortmund while still having excellent careers, and that what I see in Campbell: a talented player who maybe just doesn't have the ephemeral "juice" required to become a star.
I think you are both right. That fact that they are trusting him to close out important games is a great sign but he is getting these small opportunities due to serious injury woes.... If he fails to flash in his initial opportunities then I think he gets passed over when the roster heals up. I recall that Gittens was given these kind of cameo appearances a couple of years back and he clearly flashed in those minutes. He was super aggressive on the dribble from the get-go... I would like to see something from Cole in the near future. Right now he just looks like a guy....
I also kind of agree. And I think we have zero idea whether Cole will reach a CP level. But BVB are as good at this as any club in the world.
Cole already has 4 times as many appearances for Dortmund as Joe Gyau got in a lifetime and Cole got his debut 11 days ago.
