Truth is usually somewhere in the middle. Like, you can see what it could be, but far from is, ATM. More intention than execution.
I think he’ll be fine. From what I saw, Dortmund didn’t have much service to the forwards. He worked hard to stay available for the ball and to defend when they didn’t have the ball. We will see him at his best when they are able to get him into space or to get him running at defenders around the edge of the box. Dortmund has a low trust culture on the field. Gio Reyna still does not have trust there. Cole will have to earn trust. He is clearly trying…he’s a high effort player.
He's got a limited window until players return to earn trust. Otherwise, he'll sit at least until winter camp. And then unless he kills it there, he's looking at a loan, at which pt he's proving much less.
I don’t know if they’ll loan him out. It sounds like he’s one of their star students. This may be the start of his run into the 18 as a regular.
solid 6.5/10 run-out. tbh, i dont think a loan would be the worst thing for him. he can hang, he just needs experience
I would not expect them to loan Campbell out. I would expect them to keep integrating him with the first team.
It's Dortmund. They have plenty of star students, some to greater degree. And sounds like these opportunities are part circumstantial. That circumstance will change before long.
This was a fantastic run where Cole embarrassed two Wolfsburg defenders, the second of which fouled him egregiously to prevent him from getting into space running downhill on goal. It was a clear yellow card not given to the Wolfsburg player because the ref didn’t want to give him a second yellow. This was a very good play by Cole. Its hard to find a single individual play better than that from any other Dortmund player in the game.
Cole wasn’t clumsy on that play, the offensive player was. Cole played it right. The ref obviously agreed.
Agreed. He’s a contributor and even with his relative naïveté, he doesn’t lack confidence. I think they know what they have there. It would be cool if Reyna came back and played on the field with Cole.
Yeah, he’s an exceptional talent, even among Dortmund’s first team players. I would expect to see a few more of these earlier subs and then for him to get a start within a month or so. His combination of skill, explosiveness, and effort is unique in their team and it stands out on the field. After a while I went from “who is that guy who explodes with the ball” to “Cole has the ball again, good, here we go!” He strikes me as an English Premiership player who would be really well liked by the fanbases over there.
You're transparently seeing everything one way in regards to a player whose train you jumped on early. There are a few people on the forum who do that.
Watch the play again. The full grown man crumples while both players have arms extended to establish leverage. It was a flop.
I thought he was fine. I wanted a little more from him. You can see the talent. I thought he showed the building blocks of being a two-way winger. He has the physical tools to defend and tried to be engaged with it. On the ball he wasn’t quite decisive enough, he wasn’t used to the precision required at the higher level. You can see that he may have the talent to adjust quickly. Dortmund were behind the ball quite a bit and didn’t play well overall.
Pretty much agree. Overall, I was content with his speed and willingness to defend... and the fact that the coach subbed him in in that kind of moment speaks volumes. My main concern relates to that wasted opportunity he had in the box late in the game.... He had the pace and space to shoot easily with his right foot and instead, he slowed it down and tried to get it back on his left. I totally understand the whole inverted-winger movement we are seeing from so many teams but he needed to go straight at goal there and put his right foot thru it. It is the kind if thing I see all the time from left-footed RWs like Chuk (Milan) and Bakayoko (PSV) and it drives me nuts. Again... it is super early days here and we have seen a guy like CP become a much better shooter w/ his left (and right). <fingers-crossed> It seems like left-footed wingers have so much success early w/ the advantage that comes with having their "goofy" dominant foot movements that they often never even develop the ability to square/cross a ball w/ their right.
Actually he can shoot with his right foot. Maybe just a little of deer-in-headlight moment. He will adjust quickly.
High effort, plays with intensity, willing to do defensive dirty work, etc, in addition to his offensive skills and abilities.
