LAG Reserves 2 - NER Reserves 1 LAG season record now: 1-0-0 NER season record now: 2-1-0 (or 2-0-1 in Eurostyle) Both goals today by Santino Quaranta, who went the full 90. Conditioning still an issue, so he needed that time. First goal came on a PK. Mike Randolph, playing in the midfield, got pulled down in the box by a NER defender. Randolph's speed was giving NER fits, but that was really the only offense LAG showed in the first half. Half ended 1:0 in favor of the good guys. Second goal was nice run by SQ down the right side, cut in and beat the defender, keeper came out and SQ slammed the ball into the roof of the net over the keeper. I did not see who made the pass that sprung him - may have been one of the nameless guest players. It was a tough game to watch because LAG's roster is so thin, with injuries and short bench, that only about half the players were ones that are actually on the roster. A lot of guest players and short-term try-out contracts. Lance Friesz in goal. Russell - Guest - Veris - Guest Randolph - Guest - Tudela - Guest Quaranta - Guest So, half of the field players were unknowns. Under the circumstances, not bad to get a result. Other observations: Peter V was there on the bench and supporting the Reserve squad. Did not see any of the other regulars there. I may have missed someone. Glinton and Kirk were on the bench, not wearing shin guards and in tennis shoes, so I am inferring they were not physically able to perform. Steve Cronin came in as a STRIKER for the last 5 minutes of the game. He got to take one free kick from about 30 yards and slammed it into the wall. Robbie Finley came in during the second half, for Ian Russell. Finley played in the mid-field and I did not see who slid back to right back. Finley and Randolph both in the mid have speed to burn but neither showed the touch needed to make that speed reallyt dangerous.
Thanks for the report Mr. Cadaver, always a pleasure to hear for those of us who can't make it out. This just confirms to me that we need more depth, we will lose many players this summer
i remember years ago there was an article written about a player from inglewood, named wilmer lopez who was picked for the ODP team from a pirate league. it was a big deal because he wasn't playing on a traditional club or in one of the big leagues. it must have been back in the mid to late 90's. i was just wondering if this is the same guy.
Any game that makes Quaranta run his fat butt off for 90 minutes and gets him closer to first-team shape is worth it.
