So, is this a Perez-type situation or does he have some kind of European passport? Maybe he's just kinda training over there? A previous statement said: The opportunity was provided by the partnership between Norcal Premier and ACF Fiorentina (Professional Italian Club). http://www.norcalpremier.com/pdp/715731.html
http://owhentheyanks.com/2014/01/09/99-usynt-defender-to-train-with-acf-fiorentina/ This OWTY article from two years ago said he was under a two year training agreement so I'm guessing that's up and he's either extended it or maybe he's on a real deal?
I spelled it wrong in the title of the thread. I think its pronounced Sund-qwist @bungadiri @Friedel'sAccent, can one of you please change "Sundqivst" to "Sundquist"? Thank you!
I wasn't sure if you had misspelled it or were finding different spellings in different articles. Anyway, I think that last name is Swedish, which makes me wonder if he has a passport.

UFFICIALE – Primavera, altro americano in viola: preso Sundquist 8 Sep 2016 http://www.canteraviola.com/ufficiale-primavera-altro-americano-viola-preso-sundquist/ Altro talento a stelle e strisce per la Primavera. Dopo Joshua Perez, arriva in viola Cody Sundquist. Official: Primavera, another American in purple: Sundquist signs Another talented stars and stripes for Primavera. After Joshua Perez , Cody Sundquist arrived in purple. A fullback, born in '99, his contract was finalized in recent days, the result of the existing collaboration between Fiorentina and NorCal Premier of the California state federation. A native of Lincoln, Sundquist played with Placer United and San Jose Earthquakes at home, and then played a tournament with Liverpool in England before joining Fiorentina, with which two years ago he had a trial period and therefore already knows the environment some teammates. Known to the US national youth teams, but with clear Scandinavian origins, Sundquist had to wait for the green light by FIFA for his membership with the purple, just as has happened with Perez in the past. Edit: Forgive my Italian translation. There are probably many errors. Maybe someone like @GiallorossiYank can clean it up. E.g. I translated fullback but it is probably winger.
@Eighteen Alpha Buon lavoro, molto bene secondo me. Grazie! Really cool story, I haven't heard about this kid, I think @falvo lives in Firenze? Non lo conosco Sunquist, falvo?
I believe former US international Hugo Perez and SF Bay Area/NorCAL youth coach and who runs have had a long standing relationship with Fiorentina and that is why many Americans have trained with them in the past. I must say though, here are two here are two players from Northern California in Cody Sundquist at Fiorentina and Lynden Gooch at Sunderland that MLS and most importantly the San Jose Earthquakes let slip through their fingertips. There has to be a way to recognize and sign these talents if the American based league ever wants to be viable. The Earthquakes have had their youth academy in place for 6 years and have yet produced a single player that has played for the first team. I am still waiting to see the importance of these MLS academies or how their players graduate into the league.
Alashe was a college draft pick from Michigan. He also played with the Portland Timbers U23s. Tommy Thompson was found only because recently fired Quakes GM John Doyle knew his father Gregg who also was a former (old) NASL rookie of the year for the Tampa Bay Rowdies and is from San Jose. Tommy played half a season with the academy before being injured but I wouldn't consider him coming through the youth ranks as he was more of a token player....
Made the bench for Fiorentina over the weekend. Josh Perez played the full 90' and earned the penalty for Fiorentina Primavera's lone goal in a 2-1 loss. Cody Sundquist was an unused sub. https://t.co/HcWCCoGL27— Nats Abroad (@Nats_Abroad) October 3, 2016
http://www.placerunited.com/category/news Appears to still be at Fiorentina Primavera, but is drawing demand from college soccer programs.
I'm all for getting a degree but at this point , even if he signs and his career doesn't pan out, I don't think he could ever get a contract worth what a Serie A club may pay him. He can always go back to school but will most likely not be able to play in a professional team in Europe if he leaves for college and then goes back. He may as well stick it out now.
Oh absolutely. All for him and our other prospects sticking it out abroad if they are able to. The domestic option will still be there as a fallback.
More from Cody via the local paper: “The goal is to get a contract,” he confessed. “Usually when you turn 18, that’s when they decide if you’re going to get one or not. I’m 17 now, so I’m crossing my fingers, but it’s like one in a million. “If I didn’t get it, I would definitely continue playing back in the U.S. at the collegiate level, but I’m hoping I can pull it off.” http://www.thepresstribune.com/article/2/05/17/sundquist-embracing-once-lifetime-opportunity Confessed! A teenage boy confessed that he would like to be a professional athlete.
Cody has transferred from Fiorentina U19 to Osnabruck U19 on a Free......maybe he will have more luck in Germany.....its not a bad move I beleive
