Even if this comes from some obscure Berhalter connection, or (better), a Crocker connection, it would be nice to know more about why this particular fellow was hired. What's his role? Specifically, what unique characteristic or knowledge set does he bring to the rest of the coaching squad? The most concrete idea I've read in this thread is that he might be familiar with facing European opponents---which would be a very bland reason to hire the guy. There's substance behind it, and that's what I want to know.
It’s surprising to me there’s no place on the US Soccer website that lists out the full coaching staff, their title, and a brief bio for each. Whereas every MLS team has something along those lines (see for instance https://www.lafc.com/club/technical-staff/).
I think USSF just doesn't have their shit together to hire someone to fill whatever vacated position is responsible for keeping up with that. This link on the USSF website for keeping tabs on players in the NT player pool, for example, used to be updated daily. It hasn't been updated in 6 weeks.
Actual experience scouting, game planning and executing that plan in competitive games against any given set of opponents is not that easy to find. Also, they had that great comeback against France in the 2020 Euros.
So who’s going to go ask Berhalter about his coaching philosophies and system in person next week? Berhalter will meet fans and take questions Tuesday starting ~2 pm at Astro Beer Hall in downtown DC (13th and G streets NW / Metro Center).#usmnt— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) February 9, 2024
oh goddamnit why couldnt this be on the west coast. Id have a santa clause list. Someone do the lords work please.
That would be funny if someone walks up and says they're from BigSoccer and have some group questions.
Qs for GB: 1. Why don’t we counter better? 2. Would you say you like Gio, or “like/like” him? 3. Do you favor a rule change that would make having more possession and more crosses count as 1 goal? 4. Could God make a rock so heavy that he himself could not move it?
I will not be there for that, but I used to watch a decent number of USMNT games at that bar back when it was the Laughing Man Tavern.
if i went i’d ask why the team was so bad on set pieces during the last cycle and how he plans to improve
Ask: Q: What did you do wrong tactically against the Netherlands? Don't Ask: Q: What kind of kick did you execute on Rosalind?
Notably there’s a form to submit questions https://forms.gle/Kk2oQvS1pA8nu21d8 But someone has got to be there to see what is actually asked.
This might be the single-most relevant question anyone could possibly ask, honestly. Almost everything else pales in significance.
