Saturday is a huge game for the Pharaohs as they travel to the Central African Republic in the away leg of this Africa Cup of Nations fixture. The home leg was a shocking 3-2 loss, Bob's first competitive loss with the Egypt NT. They have to win tomorrow to progress to the next stage of qualifying. Needless to say, getting knocked out of qualifying would be a horrible result for Egypt, as they have never failed to qualify before (I think). Game is at 9 AM Eastern I think, but don't quote me on that.
I would imagine the 6 points out of 6 in WCQs, especially the dramatic 3 points at Guinea, should save his spot for now barring a disastrous showing against CAR today. I claim no expertise on the intricacies of Egyptian football, however. 2-0 or any victory with 3 goals scored or greater secures advancement for Egypt. Except 3-2, which will end with PKs though I'm not sure if there is extra time before that.
CAR has a good penalty DOGSO shout in the other direction, when the goalkeeper missed the ball and got the player on a breakaway. Nothing called. Still 1-0.
1-1. Turned it on for the second half. CAR has slowly been losing its defensive discipline, Egypt can still salvage this. 73rd minute now.
Looks like it's over, 1-1. Terrible result for Egypt, hope Bob survives because I think they're doing well in the WCQs.
They only had a couple effective attacks after the goal. Like so often happens when a side has to come too far from behind, Egypt faded at the end.
Yes. I'm also not sure how much he would have helped the team. However, he is a goalscorer. He's apparently trying to move to China.
they didn't qualify for the last ANC which is (one of the main reasons) why BB got the job in the first place...
I think with any coach, especially a foreigner, in Africa the mandate is to win today and don't ask questions. So, sit back and wait, and we'll see if six points in two games in WCQ trumps elimination from the AFCON. It's anybody's guess.
