Now *that* was the kind of CNMT performance I remember. That's the gap that 50 places in the FIFA rankings shows. 2026 can't come fast enough. Come on, LTPD!
- Half empty stadium? Check. - Stadium has track around it? Check. - Can't name any players on the other team? Check. - Game is only available through web stream? Check. - Dubious penalty awarded against Canada? Check. - Canadian players struggling to keep the ball? Check. - Lack of depth forces players to play out of position? Check. - Players playing as individuals instead of team? Check. All the hallmarks of a CanMNT friendly...and that's not even mentioning the result.

Canada is 110th in the FIFA Rankings, so that record against teams with an average rank of 67.5 isn't bad.

Lots of young faces and a sprinkling of veterans. It will be interesting to see which 18 are actually selected for the trip to Bermuda. I hope we win this game, not just go and make a training match where we try out new players. Bermuda is far enough down the FIFA rankings that we should pick up the ranking points. We need to start slowly climbing in the CONCACAF ranking standings to set ourselves up for decent seeding when it matters in a couple of years.
The problem is though that you don't get many ranking points for beating a team as low ranked as Bermuda.
No, but if we start winning these sorts of easy games instead of tying 0-0 it will add up. I'm not expecting (nor do we need) to rocket up the standings but small, consistent steps will get us there. Right now we're 14th in CONCACAF. That needs to improve before we hit games that matter.
You get the same strength of opponent multiplier for all teams ranked 150th or worse. Bermuda is 186th. 16 of the 35 CONCACAF teams are ranked 150th or worse. I don't know how much a FIFA Ranking improvement will help Canada unless they reach the Top 6 in CONCACAF. We don't know what format CONCACAF will use for World Cup 2022 qualifying, but Canada had four qualifying formats before the Semifinals in the last five WCQ cycles while being eliminated in the Semifinals every time. Honduras, who is sixth in CONCACAF in the FIFA Rankings, has 66 percent more points than Canada. Honduras also has a combined 13 games in the Copa Centroamericana and Hexagonal that are worth more than friendlies Canada plays. Maybe if CONCACAF played four Semifinal groups and then an Octagonal, Canada could reach the Octagonal, but that would require teams that start in the Semifinals and reach the Octagonal to play 20 qualifiers and teams who start before the Semifinals and reach the Octagonal would have to play at least 22 qualifiers.
Canada fell 3 spots to 120th in the January 2017 FIFA Rankings, which is only 2 spots above their worst ranking ever. It's the fourth month they have ever been 120th or worse. Canada is currently 14th in CONCACAF.
The details are still being worked out but Canada should be playing away to Scotland in March during the international break.

would have preferred a clean sheet but it's not too bad considering it's not the full team and majority of the team were inexperienced players. Hopefully the win gets confidence for the next games in preparations for the Gold Cup. what about the other game? Isn't the March International break 2 games? So they are only playing 1 game?
