So yes, ladies and gentlemen, after a few weeks of play, León is in first place in LigaMX with a 5-1-0 record, and is the leader in its CopaMX group with a 3-0-1 record.
    Of note:
    • in LigaMX, Boselli is tied for second place in goals scored (tied with two others, each with 6 goals; the leader Emanuel Villa has 7). Elías Hernández is the league's assist leader. Also, our goal differential (6) is third in the league and we are second best in goals scored (14).
    • in CopaMX, Miguel Sabah has scored 4 goals, good enough for second place in that category.
It appears that Pizzi has turned a corner from last season. The players he selected in the offseason (especially on defense) are more to his liking, unlike those he inherited from Matosas. Looking good so far!!!

And, as we prepare to take on Monterrey in less than two hours, a reminder of last week's satisfaction:

It's our defense: Monarcas scored 3 on us, Chiapas scored 6, Queretaro 3 and then Monterrey 4. León has allowed 23 goals total!!!
The worst defense in the league, but we are still in second place. Makes little sense.

Maxi Morales should help up front as an attacking midfielder. Cuevas will be a back up, and nothing more. Cano will do much better (he had 3 goals in 1o games for Pachuca, and prior to that he scored 49 goals in 85 games for Independiente in Colombia).
A bigger concern is Chatón. He's been plagued by injuries but if he can get his groove we'll be alright. If he doesn't, we are still good in the midfield with Gallito Vázquez, Chapo Montes, Elías Hernández, Burbano...
Kind of sad that Gullit was shipped off to Chivas, good for them though.
In any case, it's the defense where we are going to be weakest and where we didn't take in any refuerzos.

Should have signed Ochocinco, then our defense would have been much better.

So far so good. Two games into the season, and León seems to be clicking on all cylinders despite some key absences. In particular, Mauro Boselli.
In the first game, León beat Pachuca 2-0 with both goals by Germán Cano (the second one was nice). In the second game, León traveled to Veracruz and came away with a 3-1 victory (goals by Aldo Rocha, Elías Hernández, and Maxi Morales). So the new guys are contributing.
León hosts Necaxa tomorrow in LigaMX play, hopefully Boselli's ankle will be good enough to get him some minutes.

Here is Cano's second goal against Pachuca. It starts at about 20 seconds into the video.

Pizzi was named manager for Chile. León replaces him with Tena.
