Clint scored in the 27th min.of his first game for Hannover against Hamburg. I didnt see it so im not sure what kind of goal, but its great to see him score. Hannovers winning 2-1 at halftime.

Hannover fielding their first team, as opposed to the side that played the test match vs. Wolfsburg.
I really didn't know what to make of that meatch.

I take it Clint started. the impression I got from the other post was that he scored after entering in the 2nd half.

He scored in his first real match, that's what matters. Good start.

It's good to hear. Hopefully he scores a lot of goals so that people back here will begin to realize it actually takes 11 guys to win a game. I guess it's just so much easier to blame everything on Clint.

And we're in trouble when this season starts. The team is a still mess, and our best player is gone.

best metro ever is gone ... and good to see him scoring in the Bundesliga, go on clint ... for the anti-mathis idiots, it was obviously easier to make clint the scapegoat.

Good job Clint! The golden age of Americans Abroad has officially begun in earnest.

What's he doing wearing #44? Got a Hank Aaron fetish?

Mathis is shot and his best playing days are behind him....

    .....right.

On a related note did anybody else see where Isiah Thomas had to be restrained from going after a fan who was getting in his face about trading Charlie Ward while Thomas was watching the game from his usual vantage point of the tunnel leading to the floor?

Good for Clint, congrats, accolades, huzzahs, etc., etc.

I hope that this is a sign that he has the talent to make in the Bundesliga, but his time here was over and he needed the change if he was ever going to return to his elite '00-'01 form.

Major Rathbone, of Lincoln assasination fame, just called.

    He wants his beard back.

Chris Bergin is reporting that his next beard will be one of the six regional germanic designs below. (not really).

I wish Clint well, I think we all do, but to suggest that if he stayed all would be rosy and he would return to his 2000-01 form is a bit optimistic, I think. Yes, the rest of the team wasn't playing well at the end of last year, but I don't know how we are supposed to let a max salary player completely off the hook for scoring 2 goals in the final 3+ months of the MLS season. He needed a change of scenery, a new motivation, and a fresh start. He got it in Germany. Congrats to him, may he find a home in Germany.

i think all these crap about change of scenary is crap talk. The dude wasn't motivated to play b/c of what? Money! He was piss at MLS not letting him go to Germany early and piss off about that last 2 yrs. It got nothing with us. It's natural for not being ur best if u r making 8 dollars a hour. Mathis, like many of us, is motivated with money. I'm sure he'll do well b/c he wants a bigger contract after this.

He can't be making a heck of a lot more now than he was in MLS... can he? He made almost 300k per season over here. But in Germany he's no longer a big fish, max salary player. What do mid-level players make over there? And doesn't Germany rape the hell out of your paycheck? They have a socialist-style welfare state to fund. They must take a good 60% of his earnings. I dont' see how he's making much more over there.

Your point about taxes is true. But, I believe there's some special system in place for athletes, though I don't know what.

In any event, I'd bet he's making nearly a million a year. If they do indeed have outrageous tax, which is likely, he may well not be making much more.

Excuse me? Rape the hell out of a paycheck to fund a "socialist-style welfare state."

Have you ever been raped? From what my fiancee has told me as a victim of prolonged sexual abuse by her a$$hole father, she would greatly prefer having 60% (which isn't even accurate) of her paycheck docked for taxes than ever be raped. Maybe someone should rape the hell out of you before you use that term again.

France, from what I've read, is said to take up to 50% in taxes of their footballers-the highest in Europe.

Secondly, my working class friends in Europe enjoy their relatively free college education, relatively free healthcare, state-support for family and medical leave, and a safety-net for the unemployed. Besides, last time I checked, Germany certainly is still a market economy.

I don't know if they treat foreign atheletes differently than their own citizens, but in many european countries, the tax rates go as high as 80 to 90 percent

Also, what you describe above is the very essence of socialism. The fact that businesses are run in a capitalistic fashion does not preclude socialism, it's just a variant.
