Let's remember. He assisted on a back heel pass to Petter Villegas for that rocket of a shot. That nice flick against Chicago thru Thornton when we were up two nil. The five goals in Dallas to win us our 1st Eastern Conference Cup. The 60 yd run for goal against Dallas at the swamp. Those two goals he scored against San Jose this year and countless others So many other goals scored but the three big plays I'll remember from him for the Nats of course 2002 World Cup goal against South Korea. That big goal in Honduras during qualifying and setting up Josh Wolff for that nice goal against Mexico in Columbus. True there are times his temper got the better of him. But still he was a joy to watch. Good luck in Germany & at Hannover 96 CLint. We will miss you.
Kudos to Clint. Scored a decent goal or two and thrilled MLS fans everywhere with rabid insanity not seen this side of Old Yeller.
the only Metro to EVER deserve a testimonial match, but never got it, was Roberto Donadoni (the true greatest Metro ever)
Yes the 2000-2001 version of you Best of luck hope to watch Hannover games when available....Of course, I actually hope to see Mathis regain a regular USMNT member once again...But hey, it's a step by step process
Clint Mathis made me a fan of the Metros. I had not been to any Metros games before 2000 but after seeing Clint play, I started to go to Giants Stadium a few times every season whenever I got the chance. Thanks Clint and best of luck.
I think a testimonial is a premature idea, as hopefully Clint comes back to give the Metros a few more good years after tearing up Europe... But, hey, how come no Clint announcement on MLSnet.com? They've had front-page articles for McBride and Bocanegra...
mlsnet.com is slow. We'll probably see something in a week or so. There is something on http://ussoccer.com though.
The idea of a testimonial match for Clint Mathis, who has only been here for three season is just about the dumbest thing I've heard. Of the three seasons, his first one was amazing, second one was ok and last season was just horrible. Testimonials should be reserved for the greats. Mathis was above average in his first year and slowly fizzled thereafter.... I can see McHead getting a testimonial with the Crew if he returned to finish off the last few years of his career there..... not Ramos not Mathis not Cienfuegos not Lalas not Waldo not Balboa get what I'm saying?
MLSNET will announce it late because Mathis went on a free. They took their time with Bocanegra as well. Soccer 365 had the news earlier. Also, McBride was one of the premier signings in 1996.
Thanks for all the memories Clintinho. I hope the leg and all the mental stress that went with it is healed and you can go back to being the crazy, reckless (on the field), lovable, only brazilian redneck we have all grown to love here in Metrolandia. Good luck and hope to see you in '06 in the starting team of the USMNT and watch you score a few goal. Once again thank you. It wasn't always pretty, it wasn't always easy, but we know you will always be one of us, a Metro.
Clint made me a Metro fan also. Hell, Clint brought me to MLS. I'm just glad to see a fellow southerner get along in the world of soccer.
EL GOLEADOR EL GOLEADOR EL GOLEADOR EL GOLEADOR !!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for everything thanks for all the goals and all the assists thanks even for all ur crazy antics like it or not we will all miss it dont take nothing from those german players go show Ole Kahn what a Metrostar is made of METROS CORAZON!!!!! MATHIS CORAZON!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for all the goals we needed for you to get when we needed them the last 2 years ,, oops I'm sorry you didn't get them
It's going to be a lot less interesting without Mathis around. The all-time MLS leader in controversy. Good luck in horse-town.
Clint, Good luck in Germany. Score a load of goals. I believe that you will. Then laugh at Bruce Arena and his *#*#*#*#*#*#*#*# asskissing minions over here. Some of them are even on these boards.
Interesting point. Will Clint be interested in the nats? But a good WC could help him with a new contract which coincidentally expires at WC 2006 time.
