I was driving from Hertfordshire to Hull this weekend and heard on BBC Radio4 that someone named Clint Marcus is supposed to sign with Leeds United during the December/January transfer window. Does anyone know who he is and why Leeds would anyone like Terry Venables would want him?

    Apologies

Sorry lads... it seems I haven't done my research. His name is Clint Mathis. Apparently he has scored 25 caps with 10 goals. I didn't watch any of the US games at WC 2002 except for one (Germany) and found that one particularly excrutiating to sit through. I remember Mathis now. He didn't so much in that game except tumble about in that typically clumsy American style of footie.

Mathis scored a particularly exciting goal against Korea, but didn't factor much in the rest of the tourney. And when he returned to the Mutts after the WC, he wasn't very impressive.

Oh boy--do we let this thread die a natural death or does a moderator come in here and put it out of its misery...?

I doubt that this guy is new when his second post contains a statement like this:

Nice try Rizzo. But you got the 'facts' a little skewed.

I heard this story as well but not on Radio 4. It was in Sunday's Daily Sport newspaper. Yes, Leeds are in trouble financially, and yes, Clint Mathis scored a clinical goal against South Korea, and yes, he has disappeared on the pitch since coming back to the Metrostars ...BUT Leeds already has its non-EU quota of stars including Kewell, Viduka, Radebe, et al. They will will be looking for someone in the EU rather than bother with the non-EU pre-requisite for a work Visa (e.g. players must have 70% of international A matches).

Also take into account that the Daily Sport is not exactly the pinnacle of quality journalism. They have a few nudie photos throughout the publication and they also reported that Brian McBride was heading to Everton in exchange for Joe-Max Moore plus £1m. I don't see that happening either especially the way Wayne Rooney has been putting them in.

Forget Mathis, who's this Marcus guy? He sounds first-rate. We need to cap him now before Ghana steals him. Call up Marcus Bruce!

Sounds like some second rate character from Spartacus.

I say let, Ghana have him.

Leeds is getting Mathis because the decent EPL teams like Man U, Arsenal, and Liverpool are after the Adu brothers. Now those guys play some serious footie.

As mentioned earlier, it's clint Mathis. I am trying to confirm with the Daily Sport to see where they got their news story from. I did hear it on the radio though.

This is serious, no hoax so cut out the nonsense about Marcus.

He'd make a top notch keeper, then! There wouldn't be any holes left in the goal mouth for a ball to get through.

I think they are talking about Chris Marcus...the All-American Center for the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. I can't believe he is giving up basketball for soccer!!

Seriously, though, if Rizzo the Rat is ripping on Clint's performance in the Germany game, he is obviously a troll. Clint was a great spark of the bench in that one...

or maybe Mathis and DMB mated, and their offspring is a phenomenal player. Full name, Clint Da Marcus.

    Re: Apologies

With statements like this above, it's no wonder some people aren't taking you seriously..

The USA/Germany match was an exceptional match that the Germans were damn lucky to win..

To each his own I guess....
