It would be cool to see the Cleveland Steamers come play against the San Jose Earthquakes at Spartan Stadium in an exhibition match sometime in the near future.       Ironically, it would the first time that a Cleveland soccer team played against a San Jose soccer team, since the Cleveland Stokers only played in the NASL for two seasons (1967-1968), ending six years before the Earthquakes began in 1974.       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Ok, this makes the umpteenth reference to the Cleveland Steamers on this board. Can someone explain the significance of the "Steamers" mascot? Where did this come from? And why Cleveland?
A "Cleveland Steamer" is a pretty disgusting sex act. The tie-in with soccer, apparently, is that St. Louis used to have an indoor team called the Steamers, in reference to riverboat steamships. I find it hilarious that the thread originator has gotten high and mighty with a couple of us recently over equally borderline posts.
Re: Re: Re: Cleveland Steamers!!! Me too, a couple times, when a few of us would drive up from Fort LostintheWoods.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Cleveland Steamers!!! Were you a 12-bravo, too? "We're engineers for fourty years we've lived in caves and ditches We wipe our ass with broken glass we're hardcore sonsabitches!"
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Cleveland Steamers!!! 11B10A my first couple years (not at Leonard Wood) then went to DINFOS in Indy and trained in radio, then assigned to Bragg, then FLW where I was a 71R at the Public Affairs Office. Filmed a LOT of 12Bs in action, though! Went into the reserves in SanJo after I ETSd and was a grunt again. As we ran past the 5th's barracks every morning: "If I was as dumb as you, I would wear a castle, too!" The above will probably make zero sense to anyone who hasn't done time in the Army... Oh, we played soccer at FLW, too (our yearly big game was against U of Mo Rolla). So there's the soccer connection...
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Cleveland Steamers!!! Infantry calling engineers dumb - talk about the pot calling the kettle black! If I had it to do over again, I'd probably do something along the line of 73 lima (I think that's a file clerk!)
I can see that MOS numbers have changed considerably since my days in the "brown-boot" army. I wouldn't be surprised if they are completely different now from when you guys were in.
First it was golden showers at Mexico matches, now Cleveland steamers in MLS, soccer fans are such pervs.
that sex act is also known as a cleveland steamer because cleveland is supposedly a very dirty city. i wouldn't know, never been there... but the river did actually catch on fire and burned for days.
E-nough. For those of you who actually do want to discuss potential expansion sites, the MLS:Expansion and Stadium forum is a good place...
