Re: We're Staying in Cleveland Will Cleveland Be Around, Heres a article from the Battery web site no metion Of Cleveland being in the USL1 next season http://charlestonbattery.com/news.asp?y=2009&page=1&id=484 Heres a quote out of the article USL1 will include at least the following teams for the 2010 season, Portland, Rochester, Puerto Rico, Austin and New York. Portland will be joining MLS in 2011.
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland It could be that we dropped down to USL2 with new ownership, as reported on Inside Minnesota Soccer.
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland Damn I hope you guys come back to USL2 and to Clev st. If you do it will make me wish i never left the Burgh. Good luck wherever you guys are next year, right now it looks like every non MLS club in the country is in need of a bit of luck. Cheers from your enemy!
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland Should have known that when I finally get the Masters degree, City would move back to Krenzler....grrrr
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland Team still hasn't been sold, things are looking a bit bleak. As it looks right now, we probably won't have a team next season.
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland What? I thought the team was sold weeks ago? That's what people on here were saying. The new owners were supposedly even going to the USL meetings, right?
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland With USL in collapse, I don't see City around in 2010. Who keeps the trophy?
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland Nobody knows. A letter of intent was signed over a month ago but it doesn't sound like anything has progressed from there. Apparently the team's debt is the main issue and it sounds like talks haven't been progressing at all since that letter was signed. This is all from International Soccer Network, the only site that has covered what's going on with the team throughout all of this. And if the team does fold, I would think Jon Ortlip or Dr. Treadway would keep the championship trophy.
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland Is there any chance that the potential buyers could pay the fees for an expansion team for less than the cost of buying the Stars and paying off their debts? If Western Mass and Bermuda drop to PDL or fold, the USL would need additional teams to get up to eight and might be willing to waive either the expansion or annual fee or lower both for new teams for one year in order to keep their certification for a D III league.
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland This has been a perfect storm of crap. The financial problems resulting from the mishandled move to USL-1 likely made CCS a difficult property to sell in the first place. Then the USL's problems probably made the situation worse. I mean, who wants to buy into a league that appears to be collapsing? ------RM
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland I'd rather have another season with Rod than have no team to watch, or blog about for that matter.
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland This would suck major balls. Here's hoping for the best!!! CLEVELAND<>ROCHESTER
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland Hey, I was trying to look at the positives if we don't have a team. I wasn't saying it would be better.
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland God, I just want this whole saga to be over. The new report on International Soccer Network is that the sale will become official next week. This needs to get done soon so they can start selling season tickets and signing players. Here's what it says:
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland Question: Without promotion and relegation, what is the difference between a 2nd Division and 3rd Division league? ------RM
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland This blows. Real sorry to hear this news. I was hoping you guys would at least drop down to USL-2 were you could hammer the Riverhounds some more. I'm really hoping my Aztex move to NASL, like right now. Worst off-season ever!
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland My condolences, this sucks. I adopted CCS as my USL1 team but never was able to make it out to a game last season, sorry.
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland Its official, sorry guys... "After months of negotiation and meetings, and in the midst of the conclusion of our sale, the USL decided to terminate our franchise just prior to Thanksgiving.” http://www.insidemnsoccer.com/2009/12/02/cleveland-city-stars-release-players-from-contracts/
Re: We're Staying in Cleveland Doesn't this mean, though, if they get their financial act together (if they haven't already), that they could join the NASL? Did Traffic buy the rights to the Cleveland Stokers just in case?
