Just got an update from Riggs Field. 10 minutes to play in the first half, Clemson leads 2-0. Early goal by Andre Borges, 2nd goal by Dwayne Jones.

    Good game

Sounds like a pretty wide open game for the fans. Note to Clemson: Gotta win your home games in the ACC this year because everone is going to lose some on the road.

It was a hell of a match. It was one of the most enjoyable college games I've seen. The first goal was a matter of "are we playing yet?" It looked like a rec. team not paying attention. The other four were very nice. UVA's keeper needs some work as he misjudged a few saves including the game winner. They were very close, in fact one looked like it was flicked out of his hands. He needs some time in the net to build up his confidence. He may do very well by the end of the season. UVA could turn it around (no wins on the road?) and still be in fine shape by the end of the year.

The run of play was in Clemson's favor and they deserved the win. UVA put together some nice combinations but had consistency problems in the front and the back.

Doug Warren and Ricky Lewis played very well. Lewis had one or two bad passes but overall his consistency on defense was very good. A Clemson player went out with a pulled ham. I think it was one of their scorers. I'm sorry but I didn't make a note of who it was. He might be out for a few weeks at least.

I wish I had the game on tape. Great game.

Wish I could have been there...Clemson and UVA typically put on quite entertaining affairs. I would love to hear more updates if others were there.

terp fan - you are very right, you gotta win the home games and steal one or two on the road.

Is UVA in serious danger of missing the tournament? 6-5-1 and 1-3 in conference if I'm not mistaken. It sounds like they are playing better now, but are in need of some results. I think I read somewhere that they are finished with road conference games, so I'm sure things will be better for them at Klockner...

It was a great game. Virginia created more chances. Alecko missed a sitter late in the game that would have iced it for Virginia. He was the best player on the field though. The game was the usual rough encounter between these two rivals. Virginia must be underachieving to have 5 losses with the way they can play. At least the good guys won.

Someone posted earlier about UVa's keeper. I believe Comfort is a senior. If he hasn't figured out how to judge balls by now and if he's the best option for Gelnovatch between the pipes Virginia will be in serious trouble until next season. Comfort = worst goalie in last 20 years for UVa. Also, he is not much of a leader in the back as evidenced by all of the goals the defense has allowed this season after allowing NONE in the ACC at all during the regular season last year. How does something like this happen?

I went to the game yesterday. I was just curious about UVA's #5. I believe his name is Matt Oliver. Just wondering if he had any national team experience? He was pretty solid. Any info on him would be great. Oh yeah, GO TIGERS!

I only partially agree with that. I think UVA had more action because they were down or tied for 99.9% of the game. They worked it though the midfield many times but could only get two goals. Only two . . . . like that's not a lot in your average hard fought college game . . . but it's true. I think here you have to credit the Clemson back line and their keeper. Again I wish I had a tape.

Giffetinho, After your post I see that UVA is in for a long year.

As far as missing a sitter true BUT if the Clemson striker would just have passed the ball off the goal line back to the PA arc Clemson could have finished the game much earlier.

I thought the ref's did a great job. The center was much more assertive than is normally seen in a college game.

The atmosphere was good but it was a day game with too many kids. More students would have made it better. The homecoming queen candidates improved the crowd/atmosphere tremendously.

by the time this game was even, about 30 min left, i found myself fearing the counter attack off restarts and corners from both teams. that is to say neither team looks lethal on set plays and that isn't good. if the cavs keep eskandarian out of the mix on corners by giving him the kick they won't score against good teams. and my tigers are flat out small. they don't even serve their corners to the box, but play short and try to spring somebody lose up top. i'm worried. nick rivera isn't getting much credit but he, more that lewis and as much as warren, is the backbone of the tiger d. lose him, and lose games.

    corners...

Rivera has played courageously...i am particulary impressed with the composure and tackling of justin moore...occasional distribution lapses but he plays more like a junior or senior. although i believe the tigers to be thinner in the back this year more than they have been in the past...other than warren in big games, i don't think you could point to one single defender as a game changer.
