In order to dispel some of the wild rumors that have been circulating on these boards, I have been asked to pass along the following information about Santino Quaranta:

His longtime girlfriend, Katrina, whom he lives with in Baltimore, is about to give birth. Santino felt it was important to be with her at this emotional time. While in the area, Santino also has been working out with a trainer to stay in shape. He will rejoin DCU and the u-20 squad in Florida soon.

Thanks for the info. We can now go back to bashing the MetroDonkeys instead of Tino. :D

Dammit. I hate to see that threads like that actually got back to the players, particularly one as young as Tino. Yeah, it's probably worthwhile asking whether something was up, but some of the speculation was over the line.

Is there some sort of reproductive reserve clause so we get right of first refusal on Q1.5?

    Thanks for "clearing the air."

Another rather startling example of this board rising to a level of import above our collective understanding.

In other words, I'm a bit surprised that anyone associated with DCU or the Q family would feel the need to address the yahoo-speculation on a goofy message board.

Then again, the only other alternative would be to put out an "official statement" via personal spokesperson or via DCU front office. This is probably the smarter play, as it keeps the info on the D-L.

Again, though, this is predicated on the notion that you MUST respond to rumor and innuendo. You don't, which is why I'm a little surprised by this.

It will VERY interesting to see how/if/when this issue recieves a more public response and/or coverage in the media.

Put it this way, if one of the countless teenage pros in the NBA fathered a child would we see it on ESPN.com (and everywhere else?)

I honestly don't know the answer, but it's an interesting thing to mull over.

Oh, it should go without saying, but for the love of Yahweh people: Ya gotta wear the Jim-hat!

Will Tino's baby be referred to as Q1' ?

Here's hoping they become MLS and US Soccer's version of baseball's Griffey's.

It is concievable that they could be playing on the same team 17 -20 years from now.......

    How about "Mini-Q?"

    Than Q, Steven, for clarifying.

The people of Highlandtown must be shocked. A teen-age mother. Whoda thunk it. :D

Congrats to them all. This could be a huge distraction - I always wondered about Eddie's play when his wife was expecting - but at least Tino is TCB instead of walking away like so many of his age group.

Do the United/Freedom have exclusive rights to Q3?

Speaking from some experience, you do tend to eat on the same schedule as the kid, which is a lot, so I hope Tino does keep up with his training.

    Thanks for the update, Steven.

I guess the "fine white powder" was nothing more than baby powder. ;)

It's disgraceful that it came to this.

Here is a situation where Tino's privacy was most definitely invaded by a bunch of pushy fans. Sure we all wondered what the hell was going on, but I think the statement that he was in Baltimore for "Family Issues" should have been detail enough for everyone.

I'm sorry that he felt the need to come forward with this very private information, but thanks to Steven Goff for providing him the opportunity to do what he felt he needed to. If you speak to him again Steven, let him know that we hope everything goes smoothly with the birth and that we look forward to seeing him on the field again very soon.

Teenage pregnancy in Baltimore is nothing new (I think we lead the league in that department), so this should not be very shocking locally. I'm sure that many of you will enjoy taking your obligatory potshots at my town, so fire away.

I'm ashamed that the level of discourse has dropped so low on this board.
