I agree that Maldini is best used as a LB but he isn't too bad at playing in a CB spot. Your defence would probably look like this: ------------- Scirea ------ Bergomi ------ Baresi Gentile ------------------- Maldini If I was to take out Facchetti out of that team and play Maldini as a LB, I'd personally put in Cannavaro. He's close to breaking Maldini's record for the most Italy caps and he pretty much carried Italy's defence in the last World Cup. Fair enough. I watched a few soccer documentaries a while back involving Australia and Hong Kong seemed to have played in quite a few matches against the Socceroos back in the 60s and 70s.
I don't know much about our football team history, but he's probably our best player of all time: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Wai_Tong
Thanks, dor02, for the understanding. Showed fairplay, a rare quality that dignifies BS. It would be dishnonest on my part not to recognize it. Sorry for the rant. 58 though is not just ‘my’ raving & is shielded in that poll by the votes of other 6 BS members, what puts it in parity with 74 (for which you voted & I agree it was a nice choice). The thing with 74 is that at least in terms of Germany it represented the (glorious) end of a generation and not its outburst (the same with Brazil 70). Who really 'carried' it for me was Holland. But that’s a discussion for the other thread. Cheers.
When Müller was top scorer he for me wouldn't make the All-Time 22 bench either. As far as 'area men' I think Ademir, Vavá & Romário were even better than R9. In my selections above, who would we take for him to enter: Leônidas, Tostão (a mid), Jairzinho?... It's not 'nostalgia' (as somebody here tried to put) but reality. After Jair did that in 1970, what can we do?: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=YZ4swWmMhHU&feature=related http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=D8CmDaYJ0WY&feature=related http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=poz7XtatADo&feature=related http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=SkvUgYAybOY&feature=related In that function (striker) R9 was surely the best after 94 though.
Didn't remember it was you. See as I'm not that 'nostalgic'? Just a bit ... Didn't remember bborum, but will always remember Brigitte Bardot.
ooops... the link doesn't seem to work. http://www.gala.fr/l_actu/c_est_off...ois_de_prison_et_15_000_euros_d_amende_114355
Your poll claims are incorrect. The names do not appear for a very good reason because they are not genuine votes. There is no way of differentiating between whether a member, while logged out, voted, or if someone voted numerous times, etc. That is why public polls are so good because they enable you to remove phantom (suspect) votes.
Still, and sadly, you lose . If you click on the blue numbers, and check as you prefer just the 'names' standings, 1958 (along with 1998 & 'None of Them', with 5) appears, after 1970 (with 7) as the generation with more voters: With the Creation of The FIFA International Board of Rules 5 8.47% 1930 World Cup 1 1.69% 1938 World Cup 0 0% 1950 World Cup 4 6.78% 1954 World Cup 2 3.39% 1958 World Cup 7 11.86% 1966 World Cup 2 3.39% 1970 World Cup 7 11.86% 1974 World Cup 7 11.86% 1982 World Cup 2 3.39% 1986 World Cup 1 1.69% 1998 World Cup 8 13.56% 2006 Zidane's header on Materazzi 6 10.17% All of Them 0 0% None of Them 7 11.86% Now 0 Voters: 59. You have already voted on this poll Since 1970 tactically wise was just the culmination of 1958 (passing through 1962) they can be simply seen as the SAME generation. AND THEY ARE. That means first place by far (12 votes) for the generation of 1958-1970, even under your desperate last-minute criterion. Now if others who voted were not registered members (& their names don't show up), or if they voted twice (I tried doing it now, and it was impossible), tell us how to do it, smart boy. Till second order, you're the suspicious one here of 'playing piano' ... __________________________________________________________________ PS: I imagine, then, how ridiculous it must have sounded to you the famous 2000 FIFA poll on the 'Player of the Century' ...
Why didn't Bardot commit suicide at 30 as Marylin did. >< We would not have an old ugly cryptic fascist left, and we still could buy splendid furs of babies true seals.
And the fascist is Bardot ... BTW what do you want 'splendid furs of babies true seals' for, cutie?... Besides doesn't it sound sort of sick bearded & haired-leg football fans wanting beautiful women to commit suicide ???
Catel may go a bit too far (I don't completely disagree with him however ) but he's completely right by stating Bardot is a racist and fascist pitiful old woman. She's fond of Jean-Marie Le Pen's ideas actually.
A woman like that CAN have whatever political opinion she wishes. It's like judging Maradona by his 'pseudo-leftist' fascism with his hypocritical carrying the banner of the 'people' & 'players' against FIFA & Pelé (when we all know how related that is to his inherent racism & professional frustration), by tattooing Chávez & a decrepit Fidel images on his body, by like an even dwarfer Mussolini appointing to his own chest and declaring himself 'the best of the world' (in fact a total disrespect & lack of ethics towards his fellow professionals) etc etc. And forget his specific importance to football as much as you're forgetting BB's importance to cinema. Besides, a LePen supporter or not, it's extremely commendable her attitude of defending animal life in the planet. And least but not last...women! Politics and football are not their specialty anyway ...
Anyway, this whole seemingly off-topic discussion about BB or MM started with being 'nostalgic' or not. As Theory of Relativity (and/or contemporary cinema) retorted though, one can be nostalgic of the past as well of the present and even of the future ... For instance, Teso dos Bichos is compulsively 'nostalgic' of a post-present Zidane. As a highlander he comes from the past or from the future just about everytime the name of Zidane is cited. There is no way out though. Impossible to think of any Classic XI without considering all epochs as a coherent (or even incoherent) ensemble. Don't commit suicide yourselves in this thread, please ... We're all eternal. Allow MM and BB 'haunt' us (and KK haunt you) a little bit more, right?... They - at least in this thread - are more than entitled to it ...
