Many of the top 2009 players have already given a verbal commitment to their college of choice. I put together a Google spreadsheet to track the commitments of the national team pool players that can be accessed via the link below: http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=poknaL_RaORDOMcyz_riBDA&gid=0 Please post ones that you know about here (it doesn't have to be a NT player) and I will update the list throughout the year.
Thanks, CBG. For some reason, I can't open the link. Anyone else having trouble? Then again -- it could be that it's my computer and I'm technologically challenged...
Thanks for the info! One revision. Courtney Verloo is a national team player. She just scored for the U17's (or U18's maybe?), but she is definitely a youth WNT member.
I believe Wys is a junior and is a part of the 2009 class. I remember seeing her in the Miami Herald last spring and she was a sophomore.
I think you are right. The most recent article I read stated she was committed for 2009. So, that is where I will put her.
I was thinking that Wys was a Jr and that Crown was a Sophomore, but I could have always gotten them backwards.
Actually, Top Drawer only had a few of the verbals that I have listed before they changed sites. If you mean the list at StudentSportsSoccer, then you are correct ... the lists are very similar. I have provided the commitments from 80%-90% of the NT players on my spreadsheet for them to include in their database.
Great List. At this age you almost have to list the entire pool because while the majority of the pool has stayed the same for several years the roster for each event changes from year to year and event to event. This year they combined the U-16 and U17 and formed the U-18 team so the roster is still in flux. Since many of these girls are the first to go it is interesting to see where they are going.
I heard that Castleberry is no longer a tar heel as well. Will she be the start of something that is normal in other sports (college football and basketball). Will all these coaching changes mean players try to follow coaches, coaches try to get them to follow? What will the impact of a Greg Ryan do to someone who is an '09 has committed already and he comes calling? If there is another crazy coaching change next year (which is possible with the pro league), will this "snakebite" kids a bit to not commit so early?
Holly King is actually a 2009. She is going to Florida. Stephanie Carpenter was going to Penn State, but now is going to West Virginia. Kylie Facinelli should be on the 2010 list. She committed to UCLA.

This begs the question just how firm IS a verbal commitment? (from either side) Here's another list -- all information obtained via some online searches: Link to Eclipse Select 2009 Verbals: http://www.eclipseselect.org/images/Class of 2009 College Commitments.pdf Very Impressive! Couldn’t find player profiles though. Ohio Elite 2009 Verbals from their team website: Emily Cardell, University of Louisville; Kiley Naylor, University of Virginia; Tara Campbell, Duke University; Leslie Twehues, University of Kentucky; Ally Berry, Wake Forest University; Erin Jacobsen, University of Wisconsin-Madison; Lauren Amyx, University of Notre Dame; Alix Hildal, University of Mississippi. From FC Bucks Vipers site: Adidas ESP All-Star, 2007; Region I Team, Holland; ODP Interregionals 3 years; ODP Regional Pool 5 years; Region I Team, Barbados; USSF Nat. Camp 05; Top Drawer Soccer "Players to Watch" and "Best 11."
According to the NCAA, if the verbal is a result of an offer, the verbal locks in the school. It's also custom not to go after a player who made a verbal. It's considered sleazy to do it. (doesn't mean it isn't done) The player is under no legal obligation under NCAA rules. If they don't sign a letter, they can go anywhere. (explains why schools get so excited about the letters, doesn't it?)
Thanks to everyone for the updates thus far! I will update the spreadsheet and re-publish it this evening. I will also add a tab for verbals by college so it will be easier to see it in that format as well. Keep the updates coming though! With as many people as we have on this board, I am sure we can identify the majority of verbals much quicker than before.
I'd like to believe it's the three-game winning streak WVU has against Penn State But I have no clue.
Could she have been a Paula Wilkins recruit who's interest in PSU diminished when Wilkins went to Wisconsin?
