We're now halfway through the first group phase and there's some teams that can pretty much book passage to the second group phase. In Groups A, F, G & H, Arsenal, Man United, AC Milan & Barcelona, respectively, need only a single point in their last 3 games and they're through. In Group B where Valencia has 9 and Liverpool & Basel each have 4, Valencia guarantees passage with a win over either of the others or with a tie with each. Similar in Group C -- Real has 7, Roma 4 and Athens 3 -- Real guarantees passage with win over either of the other 2, likewise with a point off each of them. In Groups D & E, everyone is still in it.
Juventus are basically through and have more points than Real Madrid. Bayern and Newcastle are out in all but mathmatics.
Juve has the same points as Real, 7. However, in Juve's group, 2nd & 3rd have 5 & 4 points. Juve could beat Feyenord and lose it's other two games and there's a scenario where they'd finish 3rd, so that's why I didn't include them in the same type of situation as Real. Bayern is only 5 points behind Deportivo and Newcastle is 5 points behind Feyenord with 9 points remaining. I don't qualify that is "all but mathematically" eliminated.
Juventus have 7 which is right. However, Bayern only have a slim mathmatical chance. In reality they have little to no chance unless they win all their last games.
Plus Bayern have to go to Milan and Deportivo. No easy task. In reality Bayern is toast. And they were the club I thought would lift the cup this year. That shows how good I am at predictions.
