Uefa Champions League Group Phase - Matchday 3

A.S. Roma. vs. FC Bayern München

    vs.

    Kick-off: Tuesday, October 21st 2014, 20:45h CEST (14:45h EST)

    Venue: Stadio Olimpico di Roma

Referee: Jonas Eriksson (SWE) who officiated our Uefa Supercup victory against Chelsea FC in 2013 as well as our less glorious 1:1 draw against SC Braga in the Uefa-Cup season of 2007/08.

I'm very excited to see this game, because A.S. Roma is a very good team and I expect a high quality display from both sides. However we should be wary of their set-pieces and individual quality on the break, because those are a tools to give them an easy 1-0 lead and we need to avoid that. I also expect Benatia alongside Botang, because we need his aerial strength.

However Roma doesn't have an opponent of comparable strength in their league when it comes to facing a possession oriented stile with extensive pressing. They will have a much harder time than against Manchester City and at home I expect them to show some innitiative, which might expose them at the back. Their game against Juventus has certainly shown Pep Guardiola weaknesses, which I expect us to exploit.

Taking at least one point out of the Stadio Olimpico is crucial for our ongoing CL campaign. Off we go to the Eternal City!

    This game worries me.

We're going into a very hostile environment and they are going to play the game of their lives vs us..

Kinda like how napoli played vs BVB last season in their opener.,

We need at least 1 point here.

It's vital they don't score the first goal otherwise they'll park the entire bus fleet after that.,

Roma isnt good at parking the bus

I expect a fairly open game, Roma looks very deadly on counters I would want us to sit a little deeper and force them to come out. That might gove our runners Robbery, Muller Gotze Lewy spaces.

I have no idea what we would line up

    Wanna say it'll be:

    Lewy
    Götze-Müller-Robben
    Lahm-Xabi
    Alaba-Benatia-Boa-Rafinha

Gonna say it's like that except that rafhina out and bernat in..

god only knows what formation because pep never has had a standard..

But lewandowski muller robben gotze is a nightmare for any team..

Alonso lahm Alaba supporting should be an advantage here.

    Ribery as super sub

Yeah, I think this as well. I'd like Lahm at RB but we need someone who is good positionally in midfield. The only question mark is to start Benatia or Dante.

I think we might have Bernat at LB and Alaba moved up to CM. Pep would want to control the midfield in the away game.

I agree, we should drop Müller or Lewandowski (if he's still hurt) from the starting line-up of this match. We need maximum control of central midfield and David Alaba is extremely important, because his physicality and incredible pace add another dimension to our central midfield.

Without Thiago and Schweinsteiger there's no good alternative to Rafinha at RB and Lahm in CM. Especially in a big match like this.

Lahm in midfield or Alaba in midfield.

    What are the differences tactically

Müller is a lousy LW and Götze unproven in CM. A diificult away game is not the time to start experimenting.

I think this is too attacking for an away game

    Rafinha--Boateng--Benatia--Bernat
    ---------------Alonso
    ---------Lahm---Alaba
    --Robben----Lewy---Gotze

Muller and Ribery off the bench

What I think our lineup will look like on tuesday

    Gervinho-----------Totti------------Iturbe
    --------Nainggolan----------Pjanic---------
    ---------------------De Rossi----------------
    Cole-------Astori------------Manolas----Maicon
    --------------------De Sanctis---------------------

Only thing that could happen is Holebas over Cole and Yanga M'bwia over Astori.

Could you please list their jersey numbers? I have a hard time distinguishing the different players in your starting 11.
