Anybody familiar with this band? I went to see the New Pornographers last week, and Cinerama, from the UK, opened. They were awesome -- I thoroughly enjoyed their show. I've since "file-shared" several songs, but they don't sound anything like their live performance. Live, they started out with neato soft melodies and tasty bass work, then built to a thunderous ending with lightning-fast guitar work and insane drumming. The songs I have are good, happy melodic brit pop. None of the fast stuff crazy stuff. Anybody know if any of their recorded albums sound like the live performance I described? I'd like to get ahold of one if so.
Cinerama is outstanding...I have 23 or four of their CD's...Personally I think the last one Torino is the best. Gedge is a long way from his Wedding Present days, but this stuff is still great.
I also saw Cinerama last week in Portland, and they were absolutely fantastic, better than the New Pornographers, although they were very good too. Most of the songs they played were either from Torino (easily the best album) or brand new ones. They also played 2 old Wedding Present songs (Dalliance & Kennedy), that sounded as wonderful as ever. Had quite a long chat with David Gedge before and after the show too, and he's a great guy. Really down to earth. Best night out I've had in ages....
I have one CD by them that I like quite a bit. It sounds a bit Church-ish since that Marty guy from the Church pitches in. I'm not a big Church fan, so I think I'd like it better if it sounded less Church-ish.
In my college days I was huge Wedding Present fan. They played Dalliance on 120 Minutes one time and it blew me away. The album it appears on, entitled Seamonsters, ranks easily with the bset albums to come out in that 1991-1992 era (Nevermind, MBV's Loveless, etc.) I've grown old, lost track and haven't heard a great deal about Cinerama, however. Good to hear positive things.
Went to see them last night, and it was pretty damn good. They played my current favorite song of theirs Your Charms, I made a new friend, and I got a free Guinness (well, only because the tap was wonky, but still). It rocked more than I thought it would, really impressed with the guitarist.
I just can't think clearly it happens when i'm in your arms, and my heart is pounding, how pathetic is this sounding... great song...
