And it is embarrassingly pointed out that I spelled "Cinco" wrong. Supah Mods feel free to correct it. Sorry to all you Mexicans out there, who hold this day in dear.

In honor of Cinco De Mayo, I think everyone should celebrate it by wearing a USMNT jersey to your favorite Mexican Restaurant.

I've got my England one on, guess I'll have to go home and change.

"• Earthquakes forward Landon Donovan said he expects Major League Soccer to begin discussions with German club Bayer Leverkusen this month about the possibility of extending his stay in the United States. Donovan bought a house in the San Jose area in February and has said he wants MLS to have full ownership of his rights.

Donovan is playing with the Earthquakes as part of an agreement between MLS and Leverkusen, which signed him in 1999. Leverkusen has the right to recall him at the end of the year."

    Hmmm. That was interesting.

Seems that Arena let the boys have a little fun after the match (Imagine Eddie Pope, drunk on tequila, messing around at one of those cheap photo kiosks in ...seems...well :) )

Man, I really hope they don't do this in Chicago, or LA either for that matter. Put them somewhere that doesn't already have a team...expand the footprint of the league please.

I just finished that Washington Post article, and one thing stuck out: Ronald Cerritos, a Salvadoran, was invited to the White House today as part of the Cinco de Mayo celebration. Am I totally wrong about this--but I thought Cinco de Mayo was a Mexican holiday. Why would a Salvadoran be invited to a Mexican celebration?

Rumor on the Chicago Fire board is that Chivas has picked Chicago. Take it with a grain of salt, though.

Just asking question because I have little idea, but hasn't Cinco de mayo almost become Latinos or Hispanic Day in the states through default?

    Viva los hispanicos!

I could be off, but Cinco de Mayo isn't actually the Mexican day of independnce but rather is a celebration of a big defeat of the Spanish army at the hands of the uprising Mexicans.

    Whichever, Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Everywhere and Nowhere.....I'm the wind, baby.
Well now, let's be fair. We've done the same thing with our own Fourth of July....and Labor Day....and....

I actually came here to post something about the Chivas (insert city here that already has SSS so we don't have to commit money for that because it's all about us, afterall) USA, but after several attempts at a post...well, it's just all been said over and over and over and over and........

Does this mean the end of free audio/video on the MLS site? MLB was one of the first of the major sports to go down the genius route of trying to charge people for the "privelege" of online telecasts in all their pixelated glory.

I was happily surprised to see MLS taking such a forward-looking approach to their online content by giving away the broadcasts for free, theoretically assuming that the increase in eyeballs would be worth a heck of a lot more than the $100 they'd get by finding the 10 people in the world willing to shell out $10 a month for a Yahoo-like "platinum" package, especially if they were collecting marketing demo info on the viewers to target advertising towards.

I have yet to understand how advertisers would be willing to buy time on regular broadcast networks, without anywhere's near the amount of demographic targeting available, based on sampling data from ratings firms and the fact that it's an understood medium, meaning "everybody else does it," but can't successfully rationalize doing the same in an online environment. Never a shortage of idiots and followers in business I guess.

I'll keep my fingers crossed on MLS's internet strategy wisdom, but the outsourcing track in and of itself doesn't lend a whole lot of reason for optimism simply because I guarantee it means a loss of operational flexibility, so let the nickel-and-diming begin!

But of course these telecasts were not available before they began having this company do their web work? Not that the site doesn't look 10x better or anything to begin with. Jesus, some people will find a way to complain about everything.

Actually, it was the defeat of a French army during Napolean III's attempt to place an Austrian Archduke on the throne of Mexico.

The Mexican general, Portofio Diaz, became a national hero in the struggle against the French. He later turned into a dictator.

Thank you! I knew it was something like that. Just got the army wrong. Damn Napolean III!

As I understand it, when first we saw the revamped MLSnet.com and along with that the introduction of the free live feeds of everygame, the guys at MLB.com where responsible for that. It's just now being publicized what they're doing. It's been known for quite a while MLB.com was going to be doing this stuff.

Worry not about the live feeds. They'll let you have a whole season to get addicted so that next season you'll pay for it.

    Re: some people

I did not see anything in either version of the press release to give credit to MLB for the MLS telecasts this year, just an announcement that MLB would be taking over the service going forward, and that the only prior use of the MLB services by MLS was for the Draft this year.

Generally my experience in these sorts of situations is that if someone did work that lead to an additional expansion of that level of cooperation, credit is given for that (something along the lines of, "having successfully managed the re-design/re-launch of the MLSNet site, MLS is pleased to announce blah blah blah"), and I haven't seen that yet.

Not having access to any insider info though, which I would love to see if available, since I am a self-confessed primary source news junkie, I obviously have no clues as to the inner machinations of Garber's world. Having already paid for the Direct Kick package, the extra Sports tier, Tivo, and the Premiership on my satellite system this year, on top of the XM subscription and my DSL charges, I am sure I'm not alone in seeing where the trend for subscriptions for everything is going and I don't much like it (to say nothing of what my wife thinks about the rising costs of feeding my monkey of a habit).

As an aside, the "some people" might need to be reserved for people on the board who do "complain about everything", rather than simply thrown out there as a way to disparage someone's specific, and might I add legitimate, issue/concern.

I try to assume the best intentions unless proven otherwise, and I don't believe a review of my postings would indicate that I personally, the person referred to by "some people", have that history, unless I have some alternate parallel personality posting things I am unaware of, like a recent bad Johnny Depp movie I unfortunately paid to watch due to the wife's particular brand of eye-candy addiction.
