I loved my Saturn. Should have never gotten rid of it. Easily the best car I've ever owned prior to getting the Fusion.

A better question is why do American political parties have any opinion on Chrysler?

Because the UAW owns the Democratic party and Democratic party currently runs the US. That is why Barry Obama decided it would be in the best interest of the UAW… err America… if we took a majority stake in failing auto businesses,

So far, it seems like they are the only union powerful enough to trade places with secured creditors in a bankruptcy.

Amidst serious concessions. Hardly the making of a juggernaut.

Hahaha. They get to own part of GM.

That's like financing the fricking Titanic and then, instead of getting your money back, you get ownership of part of the ship - as it is sliding to the ocean floor.

Dude...They got a much better deal than they ever would have, and at the request of the President of the f***ing United States of America.

I'm sure you understand the meaning of the term unprecedented.

    My '94 Saturn was great.

More recent models suck a bit more, from what I hear.

Tee hee. Yeah, GM's management is going to jettison a bunch of brands and dealers, sell off some assets and come out a competetive car company.

Man, they should have tried that before.

Matt, state laws are unbelievably favorable to dealers. Shedding dealers pretty much REQUIRES bankruptcy of some kind, to get around the state laws.

What part of this situation (financial crisis) being unique do you not understand? The President has given much, much more to the financial institutions (read: investor class) then is being given to the auto workers. Quit your bitching.

The downside of the financial system collapsing is far far greater than the downside of the big 3 going under.

Which is probably why they're being guided towards bankruptcy while attempting ease the pain on the working class stiffs of those organizations instead of outright throwing over a trillion dollars at them with few strings attached.

Maybe we should have saved that initial bailout money after all and used it towards paying off debt or something like that.

Pay off debt? It is debt. The alternative was to not pass anything and not get $700,000,000,000 extra into debt.

The investor class is not the same thing as financial institutions. Not even close.
