After seeing his name in the "Football Manager List of Yanks Abroad"-thread I decided to do some of that borderline stalkerish detective work that is the foundation of the Yanks Abroad forum! Here's the .pdf of a local magazine that has an interview with his mother who retells the romantic story about how she met her american husband while being an exchange student in the USA. The atlantic ocean then kept them apart for a long time but when they met again years later he proposed almost immediatly! The article then notes that Christopher is one of their three children. As can be seen in the picture above he has played a little for Swedish national youth teams too. A search on the swedish FA's site shows that he has played three times at the U17 level. Clubwise he plays for the Elfsborg U19 team which finished third in the southern half of the U19 league this past season. Elfsborg U19 are also active in the UEFA Youth League tournament where they have had success in the "domestic champion path" part of the competition which, from what I can gather, means that they will now get to play against one of the clubs who finished second in their group of the main UEFA Youth League tournament.
Another interesting player, and he's a '97 RB. If he's any good, he could factor into the next U-20 team, if he wants to play for us. The RB options are extremely weak for that generation, IMO.
He's moved up to Elfsborg U-21 and has captained them in the U-21 Allsvenskan A playoffs: http://elfsborg.se/2016/09/13/u21-storseger-trots-mardromsstart/ He calls himself "Swedish-American" on Twitter, so I see no reason he wouldn't be open to representing the US: https://twitter.com/Mcvey1997 It also looks like he played in the U-19 UEFA Youth League last season vs. Real Madrid. EDIT: just found his Instagram page, and there are pictures of him wearing an American flag t-shirt during 4th of July celebration, holding up an American flag, and vacationing in Indiana where one can assume his father's family is from. He clearly has strong American ties.
McVey is one of three Elfsborg youth players who will train with the first team for their upcoming Allsvenskan season. http://elfsborg.se/2016/12/06/mcvey-kabashi-och-iglicar-berntsson-larlingar/ http://www.bt.se/sport/trio-blir-larlingar-i-elfsborg/
Transfermarkt's data for Sweden's U21 league is sporadic. However, McVey has captained Elfsborg U21 in five of the six games that have been loaded into the database.
He made his second Allsvenskan appearance in May. Unfortunately, he tore a ligament and is expected to be out for at least 3 to 4 months. He's still part of the Sweden YNT pool but is eligible for the upcoming US U23 cycle. http://elfsborg.se/2018/06/27/christopher-mcvey-skadad/ @TheFalseNine "Christopher McVey at Elfsborg (Sweden)". He should be in the main forum as he's made his first-team debut.
He's back training with Elfsborg's first team. He did travel with them to Florida for the friendly against NYRB, but was not in the squad. https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019...s-vs-if-elfsborg-2019-preseason-match-preview https://www.instagram.com/p/Bs8xQ_enJLx/

He seems to have made his McWay back to Elfsborg and picked up some first-team appearances since. https://elfsborg.se/spelare/christopher-mcvey/
