How could anyone not love the story of Christian Ramirez's rise in Scotland?

for american attackers to find success ? yes.

I think it confirms that US players in MLS that wanna be forwards have very little chance of doing anything in MLS as almost every team buys foreigners for attacking positions

imagine Dike was drafted by seattle and didnt pay much the last 2 years behind ruidiaz....no one would know how good he is and he wouldnt have been sold to UK. period.

as it was, dike was lucky to go to one of the minority of teams that were willing to play him.

MLS needs to start requiring that teams dont spend all of their money on attack or something.....try to get some defenders and mids as DPs

Ramirz couldve been a good striker in MLS with the right coach/team

I presumed this as well, I took a quick look at numbers in TransferMarkt, he has a goal every 182 mins in MLS (35 in 6390 mins) and a goal every 212 mins in the SPL (10 in 2120 mins).

The California Killer. Ramirez is tailor-made for the SPFL. I had a sneaky suspicion he was going to do good things at Aberdeen. It’s become a reality. I love to see it.

Didn't pay attention to Ramirez during his MLS years... I remember him scoring a goal for the US a while back and thought he might get a run out. Is this basically his level?

45 goals/assists in 105 MLs games...I think he was good enough for a bigger role in MLS but wasnt really given much chance in some situations (stuck behind carlos vela in LAFC, for example). His first MLS season he had 14 goals in 30 games and never played more than 20 in the next 6 seasons...

no telling how high a level he could play at ....but no reason to think he couldnt play in a league above scotland

To add to that, LAFC and Houston really tried to play a small possession oriented style. That doesn’t fit Ramirez’s strengths. Ramirez plays and fits a direct style. Yet, his production at Houston and LA was respectable given his minutes played. In other words, when LA and Hou needed to play direct they threw him in. Ramirez is productive when his movements are towards goal and his play is purposeful. When possession asks for him to shift wider or drop in deeper, he just isn’t the same player. That’s why his direct style has been hugely effective in the SPFL. If he was a tad bit younger, two good seasons in the SPFL and respectable Championship clubs would jump on him. At 30 and soon to be 31, he will remain in the SPFL and probably be highly productive.

One thing I love about this move is I get to say “Aberdeen” in an over the top Scottish accent whenever he plays.
