Motherwell’s Tony Watt, despite scoring today, is no longer the SPFL’s king of the goal scoring mountain.Well… actually he is but he’s not alone at the top. With Ramirez’s brace, he is now the joint top scorer with Watt at 10. Ramirez has 13 total goals this season including Cup and European competition.

At the halfway point in the season, three Yanks could be in the league’s Best XI - Rameriz, CCV, and Harkes. All are having fantastic, impactful seasons with their clubs.

He was making $600k for LA/Houston before he left. Can guy make $750k/year playing for a non Rangers/Celtic Scottish team? He's got to be pretty beloved there right now.

I don't even think most guys at Celtic or Rangers make 750 K a year.

Hard not see Mueller having a big impact.

If you saw his form in the second half of the MLS season you might think differently. But as I say that…. It wasn’t like Ramirez was lighting it up either. So maybe Mueller will have a big impact. His hustle and grit certainly had the potential to win over the Hibs faithful quickly.

I can’t speak for Rangers but I know Celtic wage bill is comparable to a Championship side. A majority of the players - 15 to be exact - make £728K per season which equates roughly to $965K. This link below is a site I was turned onto a few seasons ago that is a pretty accurate in terms of players salaries.

If the link you sent me is correct they've got Ramirez on £5,400/week which is £280,800/year. Obviously the $/£ conversion rate changes daily but just for today equals $371,568/year. His final year in MLS had him making $666,000.

So he's making approximately 55% of what he was making. Now most European contracts have goal bonuses, appearance fees, team of the year bonuses, etc. that MLS doesn't have but that's fairly severe step down. Is Aberdeen cheaper to live in than Houston?

So I guess the equation for him was starter in the Scottish Premiership or bench player, probably with a significant pay cut in MLS going and playing abroad the final few years isn't a horrible decision.

Thanks for the link @m vann. That's worth bookmarking for future reference.

Ramirez has become an instant fan favorite and very important player for Aberdeen. I am really happy for him. Aberdeen are going to look for him to continue scoring important goals in order to remain in contention for Europe. If Ramirez keeps up this pace, he will be in contention for SPFL’s Best XI this season.

Yanks killing it in Scotland this year - cool to see.

Could be an interesting trend of domestic players that dont feature centrally in MLS going over and being starters in leagues like Scotland - and what that might lead to....harder it becomes to be a starter in MLS, the more this will likely happen.

If I’m Christian, I’m asking the club if they can please arrange a quick photo op with Sir Alex Ferguson.

After all, you never know how long the goals will go in, and that the club will love you.

Picture with a happy and engaged SAF is bucket list stuff!

It isn't, but it's a convenient entry way into European soccer.

well for non-usmnt americans, the bar is pretty high...so these types of success stories might be more significant than it may appear
