“With tens of millions of Americans watching, he’ll be expected to carry the U.S. men’s national team on a run into the knockout rounds. He feels like his whole career has been building toward this pressure-packed moment. He wants, desperately, to meet it. But the months-long buildup to it has been inauspicious.” {From a lengthy piece in the Athletic.}
Christian stepped up in the last World Cup and that makes me hopeful. But man, it really does seem when he's pressing or stressed, it's not a good outcome. I'm not sure this much pressure ends well.
Per Cardinale, Pulisic isn't going anywhere. https://sempremilan.com/pulisic-not-for-sale-cardinale-meeting. Cardinale's no idiot - in a year when Milan needs to find $80m+ to make up for CL revenues no longer being realized, Pulisic continues to be a financial gold mine merchandise- and tv rights-wise for Milan. His net revenue impact has been well into the millions of $. His shirt represents 15% of all merch sales.
Yeah, I do think he overdoes it in a US shirt in a way he doesn't do at Milan. He needs to let his teammates do a bit more of the work.
He seems to think he has to do everything. The media put a lot of pressure on him when he was young giving him the moniker "Captain America" when he was about 19. He needs to let that go and trust his team mates. Lalas sucks!
Pochettino: 'Special' Pulisic will end goal drought at World Cup https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_...chettino-christian-pulisic-2026-world-cup-usa
I think the circumstances surrounding the first year+ of his international career are what gave him a "savior complex" when it comes to the USMNT. He was thrust into the spotlight and pretty much tasked with carrying the team on his back as a teenager, and that mentality has apparently stuck with him ever since. Even as the players around him have improved, he still seems to gravitate towards "hero ball" for us.
With a goal and an assist during the Senegal match, Pulisic inches closer. Now 5th all-time in both goals and assists. One behind Wynalda for 4th place on the goalscoring list. Pushed past Claudio Reyna in assists and will likely be 2nd in that category soon enough. [You wonder where he'd be if he played in Gold Cups.] Goals: Clint Dempsey 57 Landon Donovan 57 Jozy Altidore 42 Eric Wynalda 34 Christian Pulisic 33 Brian McBride 30 Assists Landon Donovan 58 Michael Bradley 23 Cobi Jones 22 Clint Dempsey 21 Christian Pulisic 20 Claudio Reyna 19 [Active 2nd place in goals is Jesus Ferrera with 15. If you don't want to count him as active, then second is Ricardo Pepi at 13. Active 2nd place in assists is Antonee Robinson at 9. All of this is pretty far back on the list, exemplifying the importance of Pulisic.]
NYCFC is gonna bid enough and probably comin home I imagine. Just speed up the Michael Bradley story arc
I really appreciate CP, but he will be 31 next cup and already looks 31 running around out there. We need to figure out who our LW is for 2030.
A pretty disappointing World Cup for Pulisic unfortunately. And the one that will likely be his legacy sadly. It seems like he was still somewhat hurt tonight but he really didn’t do anything other than those first 45 minutes against Paraguay.
It's tough because Pulisic started excellently against Paraguay, but all momentum was stopped by his injury. He was excellent in those first 10-15 minutes against Turkey too, but I thought he was less effective later in that match and then never hit those heights again in this tournament.
He might make my mt rushmore with Howard, Donovan, and Dempsey...........might. But there is certainly a hierarchy now.
Most likely. Kinda sad that we’ve spent a decade pinning our hopes on this one player that just hasn’t been mentally or physically up for it. To be fair to him, it was always a big ask.
Sadly given he didn’t really show up in a home World Cup and he’ll be 30 next time and who knows what level he’ll be then.
