Of course. But I expect he’ll at least give it a run in MLS and they’ll similarly very much want him to try.

I had no idea getting grouped three times in a row for club and country took so much energy. Losing must be exhausting.

My favorite is the idea he shouldn’t have to play in Concacaf games since the opposition is too physical with him and takes some cheap shots. As if great players across the world soccer landscape don’t have to deal with the same thing.

Do people not watch Pulisic for Milan and the USMNT?

How can people call him soft?

The man has played 4000 minutes for Milan and the USMNT this year.
He's worn out and wants an actual summer break.
Maybe he wants to spend time with his pro-golfer girlfriend.

The man is 26 years old and has 78 caps. Don't tell me that the man isn't committed to the USMNT. That's garbage. If he wants a break, then he deserves a break.

And yes, this is something we have to worry about at this time next year. If he and Jedi and Wes and Adams and these guys play 3500-4000 minutes and we expect them to fresh as a daisy for the World Cup..................forget it.

if that season was too much for him there is no reason for him to stay in europe post 26 wc. he is clearly breaking down and unable to handle a european season.

I don’t think he’s breaking down yet but I agree with the general sentiment. Soccer is a grind for elite players. Maybe he should retire from international play after the World Cup if he wants to keep going at a high level in Europe for a while yet.

I think what we’re seeing with the guys who play for the biggest clubs is more and more games keep getting piled on and it’s leading to lots of injuries. Less a problem for clubs further down the table who don’t have European play or domestic cup competitions, but a lot of these guys are getting run into the ground. And we also just have a lot of competitions we play in compared to other national teams.

I’m mostly fine with Pulisic (and Jedi) taking this summer off. I’d rather they get a break from which will lower (but not eliminate) their injury risk next year.

I’d also note part of what made Messi and Ronaldo so good in their prime was their ability to play so many games without any major injuries.

Like the Macho Man once said, you may not like it but accept it. And that goes both ways. Winning a Gold Cup will never be a top priority for a player of Pulisic’s caliber. And U.S. fans shelling out time and money to watch those games can question top players opting out.

Yeah but if the wc looks like the copa… his legacy will be the opposite of what he thinks it will be. It won’t fall on everyone else it will be put on his shoulders.

Salah, Raphinha, and Mbappe are going to end up playing 900-1000 more club minutes than Pulisic this season. There’s a whole ‘nother level beyond what he’s done that big club superstars can hit. Like Clint at Fulham was able to rack up more minutes.

There’s definitely another level in terms of minutes, though those guys have much smaller international obligations this summer. Brazil has two qualifiers for instance and that’s it versus the potentially 8 games we could play. As far as I can tell Egypt has no qualifiers and no friendlies scheduled. Mbappe is the exception as he may play Nations League plus the Club World Cup.

    Not everyone is the same.
If he (and presumably the milan medical staff) are worried about a chronic injury getting worse without rest, he should rest. Is he as durable as some other players, no, but it is what it is.
No need to vilify him because you think you would be tougher. You have no idea.

If we had WCQers to play.........................then Pulisic would be there. I have faith in that.
This is the Gold Cup. Pulisic hasn't played in the previous two versions of the Gold Cup either. The world didn't stop revolving on its axis.

Since his debut in March of 2016, he's played in one Gold Cup.

If he wants to take the summer off, then fine.

If this was Spain or France or Argentina, you might not do this. You'd' be worried that in your absence, some other guys might grab your spot. That your role on the national team would be gone! But that ain't happening with Christian Pulisic on this version of the USMNT. Antonee Robinson is the same thing. If he's dealing with this nagging tendinopathy, then take the summer off. Nobody, and I mean nobody, in this pool is going to win his spot. [If Brown commits, then we have a challenger. But so far that's not happening.]

the issue is cocker outed him

it wasn't a request from ac milan at all

    it was from christian's 'team'

which means his mommy called and said her baby boy is tired and needs some time off.

Genetics and body composition have a lot to do with that. Pulisic has never been super durable. He doesn't really seem like the type that doesn't take care of his body or anything -- he just needs a bit naturally slight and a bit injury prone.

Perhaps he could do more weight training, and in particular targeted training. Sometimes that seems to be very beneficial though muscle injuries tend to be harder to compensate for in that manner compared to say, a knee or ankle where you can work on muscular support.

Pulisic has never really shown an unwillingness to play or play hard for the US. Maybe he is tiring of it but I think it's far more likely he simply breaks down easier than some other players.

I know you weren't specifically questioning his toughness or commitment, but I think it's important to note that 3,000 minutes for one person are not necessarily the same wear and tear as another, and there's not always something to be done about it.

I see all the tough guys are challenging Pulisic. Two outlets have said he's played injured for months and received injections for a hip injury. Guess that makes him even more wimpy as he should have gutted it out without the injections. Pulisic should will his body to never get injured as he would have total control over it if he had a tough mind.
