It also depends what you think ethnic food is. Sushi is better in New York than pretty much anywhere. That's why New York was crowned "Sushi capital of the world". However if you go to Japan sushi is a novelty rather than a staple. Same with pizza in Italy. Indian food in London isn't even Indian, it's Bangladeshi. Some colleagues in Mexico took me to a Tex-Mex restaurant because they wanted American (US) food.
Sushi is definitely not a novelty when you go to Japan having spent a lot of time in Japan. It’s one of many different types of Japanese food and you don’t see rolls as that’s much more of a western thing but it’s definitely not a novelty. And there’s a lot of Japanese spots in NYC that are quite good that aren’t sushi. Though New York City also has the best omakase scene I’ve experienced anywhere outside of Japan. One of the things about London is you have large diaspora populations from India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh and those cuisines are similar in nature and can all be found in London. And Indian food in general can be very different based on the specific region in India itself (something you’re seeing a lot more of in New York City lately given the rise of some of the more recent Indian food hot spots). And yeah you can find things like Tex Mex in Mexico and in any big city globally you can find more novelty or options targeted towards tourists but that’s not representative of the full food scene of any city. I haven’t been to Italy as often but I never thought pizza was a novelty when I did go. It’s one of many various types of Italian food and there’s definitely some regions in particular of Italy where it’s more prominent compared to others.
When I say "novelty" I mean something you would go to eat, maybe once a week, not a staple part of a diet. When an American says "Japanese food" or a Brit says "Indian food" they are generally referring to a very small subset of that national diet. If you want a pizza in Italy you go to a pizza restaurant, same as you do in New York. If you want sushi in Japan you go to a sushi restaurant same as you do in New York. If you want Indian food in London you could for instance find a Goan or Tamil restaurant but that's not generally what people think of as "Indian food". In fact if you tell someone you're taking them for Indian food and take them to a Goan restaurant they'll complain that there's no Indian food
That’s all fair. I will say in a New York or LA there’s alot of different kinds of Japanese places that aren’t sushi at all. One of things to me about Japanese food is there’s so many different sorts things you can have and you can definitely find the full scope in particular cities in the US.
I’m the student who reminds the teacher he didn’t assign us homework, but this is supposedly a more heavily moderated forum about US news and analysis, specifically Christian Pulisic in this thread. I don’t come here to read about food in London or elsewhere. Sure, I can, and do, just skip over it, but it would be nice to click here and read relevant content instead of weeding through that stuff.
Refer to previous post where I lay out the Bellingham timeline (going from strength to strength as a prodigy before becoming WC in his last year at BVB). Long story short Pulisic will be where Bellingham is next season if he maintains his current level (arguably he’d be where Jude was right when he started at Madrid). So you’ve failed to find an inconsistency. Bellingham is surely worth €100m minimum no matter his nationality and is thus still an order of magnitude ahead of Pulisic. He is an 8 who can produce much more end product, which makes him a rare commodity.
I think also there’s the case that Sancho was clearly better than Pulisic at Dortmund and went for a correspondingly higher transfer fee. Things have gone awry for him since though and even when he came back to Dortmund last year I didn’t think he looked as good as he had previously. And even more than Bellingham was Haaland when he was at Dortmund.
Haaland is the best center forward in the world, without anyone else even relevant to the discussion. That's still ANOTHER matter altogether.
Haaland is definitely the best 9 in the world but Kane is relevant to the discussion for sure. Kane did 44 goals across all competitions last year. Haaland did 38 in the same amount of games (though I believe underperformed his underlying numbers). Kane in the conversation though Haaland is number one. Haaland is relevant to the conversation because his level at Dortmund was the level Bellingham was at Dortmund as an 8 when he left.
I never thought he was. I thought they were close but the coach favored Sancho. He doesn't play near the defense Pulisic plays although at that time he might have. It was actually that other winger who got starts over Pulisic that was so perplexing. That guy has disappeared off the face of the earth, Sancho is in that void Pulisic was in at Chelsea and Pulisic is one of the best players on a storied team in Italy. BTW, I'm glad Milan is playing better because if they hired Teuchel I might believe we are in a simulation. I also hope Pulisic has an out clause if Teuchel is hired as his coach.
This. In retrospect those coaching decisions made absolutely no sense. I don't think pulisic was in a place that truly believed in his abilities until he landed at Milan. It seems odd to say, but Dortmund seemed more interested in extracting the highest transfer fee than getting the most out of his play. And that seems especially odd when you consider that Dortmund was a CL team. Or maybe pulisic has just improved that much in the last 4-5 years?
I mean just look at the goals and assists Sancho had at Dortmund versus Pulisic. Pulisic’s post Dortmund record is definitely better though.
Bellingham was not at the same level that Haaland was when he left Dortmund. Haaland was already one of the best handful of 9s in the world by that time. Bellingham was one of the most fancied 8s, as he was since his first team debut, but nowhere near that level just yet.
Bellingham is 3 years younger than Haaland and only had one pro season under his belt before joining Dortmund. Haaland had been banging in goals in the Danish and Austrian top-flights. Bellingham is blossoming in Madrid.
I disagree Bellingham was incredibly good his last year at a Dortmund and probably carries them to the title if he doesn’t get hurt (in a year where they didn’t have Haaland). It just doesn’t show up in stats like goals cause he was an 8 not a 9. He was the player of the year in the Bundesliga that year and it was a deserved award.
Its just the way a club like Dortmund operates. Its a never-ending conveyor belt in and out the door. They do an amazing job recruiting and developing young players. And then they sell them or let them walk away. For example, they signed Robert Lewandowski from Lech Posnan for 4.5 million. He signed a 4-year contract. Dortmund didn't re-sign him. In the January 2013 window Robert signed a pre-contract agreement with Bayern and walked away to Dortmund's biggest rival. Its not some big insult that Dortmund sold Pulisic. THis is what they do. People have mentioned Bellingham, Haaland, and Sancho. We can make a long list of others. How about Gündoğan? They signed him for 5.5 million or so. Sold him to Man City. Shinji Kagawa signed for 350k. Sold to Man United for 17 million. Ousmane Dembele. Signed for 8 million from Rennes; sold for 105 million to Barcelona with 50 million in add-ons. [One of the biggest profits ever made on a player in the history of the sport at the time.] You can go on and on and on and on. Its just what Dortmund does. They keep the assembly line moving and moving. If you're going to make room for the next guy, you need to sell the incumbent. The same thing happened to Sergino Dest at Ajax. They had another right back coming along. At the time, we were like PISH, WHO IS THIS FOOL THEY THINK IS BETTER THAN DEST. Well, it was Noussair Mazraoui. And then they sold him to Bayern Munich, and he's since moved to Man United. Its a great model to be a profitable and sustainable soccer club. Not so conducive to challenging Bayern for Bundesliga titles. Ajax has really suffered from doing this. Sell, sell, sell, sell, sell. Keep it moving. Keep it moving. And we see that with the clubs in MLS with the most well-regarded academies. Imagine if FCD was able to keep Pepi, McKennie, Cannon, Richards, Tessmann, etc. etc. Philly is regarded as having the best current academy..........................and yet they're currently in 10th place in the East and outside of the playoffs.

Milan misses two pk's and Fiorentina missed one. I can't ever recall a Serie A game where there were 3 missed pk's. Pulisic's goal was a beauty!
The thing about Dortmund is it seems like they moved away from this model. There’s not really a next in line after Bellingham (at one point it was supposed to be Reyna). And if you look at their current team there’s good players but no one who is going to bring a big sale. If you look at transfermarkt their most valuable player is 40 million and their top five most valuable players are 28, 26, 28, 25, and 24. The thing is with Bellingham they should have beaten Bayern they just screwed it up on the last match day (in a game Bellingham couldn’t play and they should have brought Reyna on earlier in).
