I know - that's why I'm torn about Conceicao - nice to have consistency, but I don't think he's the right long term guy. If they do replace him, it will be an extremely important decision that they have to get right.
Tuttosport: Pulisic 'not very happy with the situation' at Milan - several clubs interested Several sources have reported that Pulisic is set to put pen to paper on a one-year extension with Milan, earning a pay rise as recognition for his excellent performances. However, it is possible that he might pause to reflect on things, seeking guarantees about the club’s ambitions. I love puli but I don't think he's the caliber of player to have such demands.
The collective BigSoccer community would make a fantastic manager for Milan After all....the standards are quite low. You don't need to win Serie A, qualify for CL, or win the Cup.
There are no demands there. That's just basic due diligence before signing a contract which he (and any decent player) should do before signing a piece of paper. If Milan isn't willing to guarantee that they're serious about fielding a title-challenging team, for example, it would be perfectly sensible for him to politely pass on signing an extension. Also, yes he is
He can make whatever demands he wants and they can agree or disagree to whatever they want. It makes zero sense for him to sign an extension at the moment. But I’m sure he’d quietly run down his contract and not make a fuss if new terms did not meet his demands. This being in the media means it’s either fake, Milan want to portray him as malcontent so they can cash in, or he wants to stay longer and is trying to leverage whatever he can get out of a new deal.
Milan might lose a couple of their best players this coming window, Theo and Reijnders it appears at a minimum. They’ve shown they’re absolutely clueless about how to reinvent proceeds. Next year very well could be a shit show. Just look at how garbage last summer was. And their big money striker can’t even nail down a spot in the XI.
Pulisic and Reijnders are the same age and producing at the same level but Reijnders seems to have all the market momentum and upside right now, despite Pulisic having a far more impressive career in terms of pedigree and stats. I think Milan have to do business if Man City are buyers. I would also sell Leao and Hernandez - despite their individual merits, they completely unbalance the team. Then you have a war chest to properly rebuild with young players with ambition. Maybe Pulisic sticks around for that. I don’t quite see what better options he might have. Maybe Bayern? No top PL team will buy him, even though that’s stupid. Atletico?
Milan seems so intent on building backward that you just have to think it's an "upper management" problem. The manager disruptions clearly contribute to the problems and there's seems to be no overall strategy to their transfers. If I ran the circus I'd find a coach to go all in on then start to move chess pieces. As many have said, this is a team with good talent and no consistent character.
AC Milan is one of Italy's most storied clubs and yes, they are having an off year. These things happen but I've followed Italian soccer or the Serie A forever and regardless of who is currently struggling, there are only 3 teams in Italy who are perennial winners: They are Milan, Inter and Juventus. If anyone truly believes Napoli, Atalanta, Bologna, Roma and Lazio are in for long-term success and greatness, then I got a bridge to sell you. Christian Pulisic will probably be welcome to leave if he wants to but I'm sure Milan will be back with or without him.
Ibra is just a figurehead. Maldini was hanging around also then was shown the door and he is Milan's greatest player ever. Totti was given a token job for a few years as were a few others and they also left their clubs. Javier Zanetti remains at Inter and I think he has been a good VP or is a good liaison for Spanish speaking or Latin players but other than that, I’m also not so sure of his role. I never fully understood why clubs keep their former great players around or what they bring to an organization. It’ is one thing to be a great player and another to be an administrator who knows how to wheel and deal.
I'm sure it varies at each situation. A lot are just good will ambassadors there to meet and greet fans and VIP's. Question is what exactly does Ibra do and how much power does he actually have? He could be like salvo says and is a figurehead. I wouldn't be surprised if such player's roles are murky in case a a club needs a fall guy to blame a bad season on.
Yes. Honestly, I can’t think of many in Italy anyway, who transitioned from being a great player to a fantastic GM or VP. Maybe Giampiero Boniperti and Roberto Bettega at Juventus but even they were kept around only because of their storied playing careers. Coaching is different because he can buy and sell players and decide on who is starting but GM's and VP's are a dime a dozen.
This season is not all lost, yet! They might still qualify for the prestigious "Europa Conference League qualifiers"
Sure they will. But current ownership is a mess, management is a mess and it may or may not happen while Puli is in his prime over the next 3-5 seasons. Staggering dysfunction behind the scenes.
Juventus for them, is in the same boat. They at least can qualify for a CL spot which is worth millions. Anyway, they may be down and out now but I still believe Milan along with Inter and Juve will always remain Italy’s flagship teams. The way things work in Italy, it is inevitable.
