I can understand maybe letting one guy take a pk sure. But getting pushed aside on two pk's when you are the designated pk taker. Nah son. He should have damn well taken that second one and put it top bins like he did against Mexico. Sometime I feel Pulisic is way too soft spoken, nice and just plays along to get along. Bro needs a killer edge; You think Clint would ever let a Frenchman and an Englishman push him aside and take his pk? no f'n way.
Theo and his greedy pack of wolves deny Pulisic. Theo as the captain should be the one enforcing Pulisic as the pk taker, not breaking it.
I looked up “ho parlato con loro,” looking for some funny Ho material, and there were some nice translated alternatives. Christian, ho parlato con loro, ma non fanno altro che insultarmi. Christian, I talked to them but they just keep giving me lip. Dopo la tua chiamata ho parlato con loro, e credo di avere Abraham dalla mia... ma la nonna è contraria. After you called up I spoke to them all... and I think I've got Abraham on my side, but Ma is against it. {I thought keeping Ma was funnier than using Theo. Those Italians!}
Less humorous translation … "Pulisic had a flexor problem during the week," Fonseca said. "We managed it and in any case Chukwueze created opportunities."
I looked again at 2nd PK and Tomori got the ball and gave it to Tammy who was standing next to him. CP approached Tammy for the ball but Tammy turned away with it. Drama! On another note, DeGea had to be MOTM. Good for him after wandering the wilderness for some time. Fiorentina seems to have him do what he does best and not worry about passing out of the back. Sofascore said he prevented 2.6 goals.
Yeah, we've been discussing that in earlier posts. Tammy needs to know his role - he is an on-loan striker in his first season with the club, hasn't done anything for Milan, and thinks he is already the team MVP. Pulisic already let him have one charity goal/PK in a previous match, now the guy thinks he can take them whenever he feels like it. Instead, he should focus on putting away the great chances he has received in the run of play (some of those passes from Pulisic), which he continues to shank.
I think that was Tomori who misjudged the flight of the ball and completely missed his unchallenged defensive header. CB’s can’t do that. You don’t see many goals given up like that at this level.
Meh - I'm not a fan of this kind of certain armchair psychoanalysis personally. As said above, CP perhaps just chose professionalism over that embarrassment that occurred at Chelsea. While we may view him as the leader, that doesn't mean it's the actual dynamic and many coaches don't have strict rules about who the PK taker is. A lot of them have an order, but let players work it out based on the situation. If the players are going to take the ball from Pulisic though, they better make their PKs. For a loan player to do that - a loan player that isn't that good at finishing to begin with - definitely makes my head explode.
From Fonseca's comments, it sounded like CP WAS designated as PK taker. This confusion reflects poorly on Fonseca.
I don't think he can. I was just being wry about "captain" types who take charge. Sometimes we love them... sometimes we don't!
You can have designated takers and let players sort it out based on the situation. It's easy to say it's a hard rule after the fact. No one said anything when Tammy took and made that last one.
Im just repeating what Fonseca said. I am agnostic. From SoccerAmerica today: "Milan coach Paulo Fonseca was livid that Theo Hernandez and Tammy Abraham took the penalty kicks, both saved by David de Gea. . "Christian should take penalties," he said. "It must never happen again, and I told the players.”
Also, a striker in a top league has a 70%+ success rate hitting PKs. It only becomes a thing when they miss it. Really, the thing is, Theo and Tammy shouldn't have blown it - and more importantly, Milan had some good opportunities in the run of play to score and could not - and gave up 2 goals. The PK thing is a distraction over the long term. Milan has to play better all the way around if they wish to challenge for the title this season - and it's a pretty wide open race at this point. They need to up their game.

Not Milan but more on when Jackson and Madeuke fought Palmer for a PK when Chelsea was up 4-0 and Pochettino's response to the shenanigans. In brief, PK taker is the taker. I'm sure exceptions are still allowed if taker was just fouled hard, etc. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5419254/2024/04/16/chelsea-penalty-everton-pochettino-palmer/
