Christian Cappis on trial at Bayern Munich this week. You deserve this Cap!!!!!! Proud of the player and person you have become.#pro✌️ingpros— Eric Quill (@quillyo15) July 23, 2018
The rare American trialist who is already 18: Christian Cappis Midfielder Real Name: Christian Cappis HT: 6' 1" WT: 160 Age: 18 (08/13/1999) Birthplace: Houston, TX Hometown: Houston, TX
I saw him play against Dynamo U19's and he impressed. That is a huge step away from this though. He looked like he could play in a bunch of different positions and was very silky and smooth and made good runs. Didn't realize he was already 18.
The American from Houston Texas, Christian Cappis, showed well on trial with Bayern today...!— StephenHernandez (@hernandez43) July 26, 2018 I'm not sure if this guy really knows anything but it's something
I think there are some DA opportunists who have been landing in places overseas, but I think a large portion of DA players don’t understand that they have the ability and club interest to get a chance at a career in Europe. If you listened to the podcast by @USMNTvideos on Twitter, Chris Richards sounded completely shocked that Bayern was interested in him. I think everyone still looks at Pulisic and McKennie as exceptions to the rule and don’t realize that there are more good young American players coming
Correction... @USMNTonly did the podcast. I get all these unoriginal twitter handles confused. None of them are unique like @USMNTclips
I know I kinda felt like they were flukes just cuz its been so rare to have youngsters go to europe at a top club AND do well. But maybe the DA is beginning to produce those potential players that are good enough to play in top leagues in europe and this is just the beginning. At least one can hope
I think we’d be jumping the gun if we expected all of these kids to be Bayern or even BL players, but that doesn’t mean they can’t end up in Belgium, Denmark, or even the Eredivisie and have solid careers. Plus, I’m betting more will be hopping on planes in the next few years. I think the DAs have been a revolution, but equally important have been futsal, smaller fields for younger kids, and earlier identification of players.
Futsal and small sided games should be the foundation for any young aspiring footballer. That type of play breeds quick thinking, soft touch, dribbling, vision, etc. All those things American players were not known for- up until now.
I don know why fustal cannot be more popular in US. I've checked the futsal history, suprisely found US got one 2nd place and one 3rd place at first two FIFA fustal world cup. Even this cannot trigger US to adopt it either as a tool of development or as a professional sports.
Clavijo also told me that the Chris Cappis trial at Bayern Munich is NOT apart of the FC Dallas partnership. #FCDallas— Arman Kafai (@ArmanKafai) July 27, 2018
Wow. That's massive. He's already 18, so they're not looking to bring him as a youth prospect. He's getting look to see if he can contribute (down the road) to the first team.
even established pros (with experienced agents) that get deals in europe seem to have a surprisingly limited knowledge of the european soccer landscape.....agudelo only wanting EPL and refusing bundesliga and eredivisie moves boggled my mind (or whatever actually happened to scuttle his euro adventure)..... jozy picking sunderland (with, apparently MB's advice), etc etc I would think that the people advising these players would realize the opportunities that are out there...but maybe not..... i look at players like romain gall who washed out of mls ...went to sweden 3rd division and is now on malmo in CL qualifying...... I dont think mckennie and pulisic are flukes...I think it is a #'s game....the more players that go over, the more successes there will be.....the wave is building..... maybe some people on this board need to start a euro consulting service for young american players to help guide them in the right direction.....and get more players over there....
Money also probably plays a part in whether they play in Europe or not. If a player like Walker Zimmerman can be an average player in Denmark or Holland and make $250,000/year, or be a good player in MLS and make the same amount, he’d probably prefer to live in Los Angeles than deal with having to learn a new culture. Of course, that shouldn’t apply to young kids who should be using those leagues as a place to prove their worth. 10 years ago, we could have sent every soccer player we had and only a handful would’ve made it as pros. Now, it seems like college players we’ve never even heard of are moving over there. I think the average player here is much better than he was 10 years ago. That generally bodes well for MLS, too, and I still say for us to reach our potential as a nation we have to have a strong domestic league.
His position is deep at FC Dallas. You have Ulloa and Gruezo starting, Hayes looking really good, Servania is on loan in the USL and is Acosta's heir, Pomykal can play there... He's 18, and if he doesn't plan on college, FCD have to let him go if they're not going to sign him. I would be willing to bet that both Bayern and FCD know about it and that he is looking to increase his visibility.
Some FC Dallas prospect watchers seem to also like Edwin Cerrillo '00, who is with their U10 team and IIRC is a DM.
Gruezo's contract may be up at the end of the year. He also won't be a youth international anymore so his salary will rise and count more against the cap. If he left that would two of the four main ones leaving within six months clearing out a lot of minutes for younger players.
Yeah, maybe that’s why he has looked so dominant! And also, 9 and 0 are next to each other on my keyboard.
