The defender from FC Dallas will be loaned to Bayern for the remainder of 2018. Sources said that he will train and play with their U-19 squad. https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2018...megrown-chris-richards-set-loan-bayern-munich
I just saw this and was a little confused at first. However, I hear that he may be ineligible to actually play for FCD for a little bit? Not quite sure on that. But I'm worried that Bayern may not feel the need to play him for their U-19 squad if he's only there for a year. Maybe it will be like an EPB situation where the move gets completed.
Serious question though, would you rather him: A) Stay with FCD and play for their USL team next year or B) Go to Bayern Munich and just train with the U-19 squad, but not play in any official games? I don't necessarily have a strong preference. It really depends on how much you value game time vs training experience
Depends on how serious they are about him as a player, this partnership with FCD, and their CBs on that particular team. If any of those 3 circumstances are in his favor he could get plenty of game time official and in friendlies. Besides FCD USL won't even start till 2019 so that's not going to affect him at all.

Former US international and played at clubs such as Feyenoord, St. Pauli, etc. I guess that's pretty interesting that he's moved to the agent world.
I bought this shirt when I was in Hamburg for the 2006 WC mostly because of Gibbs. This match was basically a charity game that Bayern played to raise money to keep St. Pauli afloat. I just liked that an American was involved in such an important match for a truly awesome club. Someday I'll see Cory and I'll get him to sign it. https://www.fcsp-shop.com/de_DE/mann/t-shirt/t-shirt-weltpokalsiegerbesieger-sp0165 I love he's getting to use the European connections he made while he was playing.
In addition to all of the above, he really took an enormous jump in quality as a player in early 2010 and was primed to be one of our 3 or 4 best players in the WC that summer, and then he blew out his knee. There's a video somewhere of Arena breaking the news to Cory that he will be missing the WC. In my mind, that was the key domino that started the fall of the team that summer - losing Cory pulled Eddie Lewis out of the midfield on to the back line and that proved to not work.
Debuted in a friendly: The Bayern, who had to continue to dispense with numerous players due to professional shots, played in a 4-1-4-1 system. Chris Richards made his debut for FCB, the new signing from FC Dallas came on as a substitute. With Lasse Günther and Malik Tillman also two players from the U17 Munich were used. https://fcbayern.com/de/news/spielb...ern-slavia-prag-140718?shortURL=U19Prag140718 Lineup FCB-U19: Faster (46th Wagner) - Rausch (30th Kehl), Daniliuc (30th Richards), Mihaljevic (66th Daniliuc), Lungwitz (66th rush) - Jelisic (30th Johansson) - Waidner (66th) Tillman), Tillman (30th Herrmann), Pudic (66th Jelisic), Hollerbach (30th Günther) - Butler (66th Hollerbach) Goals: 0: 1 (21st), 1: 1 Pudic (29th), 2: 1 Butler (51st), 3: 1 Jelisic (90th)
He was "signed" on a loan. It's not that uncommon a term, depending on the location. It doesn't really mean anything. Here's an example: RB Leipzig sign Everton's England Under-21 forward Ademola Lookman on loan until the end of the season
Really liked the anecdote in there about Richards playing a small-sided game with Robben and how amazing his left-footed touch is. Great that this young man is getting the chance to practice and play with Bayern's U-19s, and even with the first team.
A guy I follow on Twitter (@usmntonly, his name is Arthur Kogan) just started a podcast and his first episode is an interview with Chris Richards. I listened to it this morning. Worth checking out. https://anchor.fm/usmnt-only
looks like he made the Bayern squad to face PSG and starts on the bench. but with context, too many other CBs are currently injured or the WC guys are missing which opened up a spot for him.
