Thanks for looking it up. If it's 2 per year, then that explains how they got Wes and Arthur in the same year.

Spezia has an American owner. It's hard to tell if these links are more about building the brand or looking for young players as budget signings. Probably a bit of both, but the rules mean they can't sign all these guys in the same window.

so previous playing experience in EU is meaningless relative to which passport you possess in Italy?

in UK there are other limits though - like depending on how much national team participation and the FIFA ranking of your country. Its not like anyone can just go to the EPL.

Yeah, it's not the same thing as a work permit, so experience is not the issue. UK limits foreign workers; it's a government control. Serie A has it's own limits apart from any Italian government regs. The whole Suarez thing blew up because they were trying to get him to fake the test for citizenship, which ran afoul of the Italian government.

I haven't seen a single minute of Durkin at STVV, but after watching so many of our YAs struggle with injuries and breaking into lineups, I am appreciating more and more what he has accomplished there. He's 21 and well into his third season as a consistently performing first-choice regular in central midfield at a mid-table Belgian team. Maybe not transcendent, but not bad at all!

20 years ago such a club would have warranted him a regular NT callup.
