I do. They've certainly been neither the competitive threat to other MLS teams nor the fans-in-the-stands success that some (including myself) projected. But things like the sponsorships and the Chivacademy are accomplishments that the BS community would laud any MLS team for. If, after a few years, it still doesn't work, I'd still hold my hand up. There is a difference, after all, between a bad decision and a wrong one.
Their off-field achievements are a credit to themselves and MLS. It's only a matter of time before the on-field production starts..... (And Garcia and Palencia et al should hasten that I would imagine)
i do. you can't judge things this soon. give 'em time. but that doesn't mean I want Club America joining the league anytime soon. One Mexican team is plenty.
$25 million good ideas... Mwuhahahahahaaaaaaaaaa - ack - sputter - cough. What do we really lose at the end of this either way: 1) it fails - a crap load o' dough for MLS / LAG with no real risk on their part. 2) it succeeds - a crap load o' dough for MLS / LAG with no real risk on their part AND a successful team that has created a true derby, some rivalry, and done their part to pave the way for future investment... Where's the downside? I don't think it could have gone better - Vergara has gotten an extra helping of humble pie (see "We're going to teach the gringos..." blah blah blah) AND it looks like he's still committed to making CDCUSA a winning team. It obviously hasn't hurt the LAG fanbase as some predicted - so new fans, for a new team, paying money to play at the home of another team. God Bless America!
Yes no club america, please, and how much do you guys want to bet if Chivas doesnt start to produce they will be out of the league in 3 years minimum?
A lot. Vergara is already pulling out the stops to bring in fresh talent. Palencia and Garcia should jumpstart the offense, and take a little bit of pressure off of the back line. Vergara also put 25 million just to say he had a team, that's not including all start up costs. You think he's just gonna "give up"? MLS wants him here, he wants to prove his point. Chivas make suck on the field, but then, so does columbus. And Chivas has better attendance, I believe, at this point. Make all the snarky comments you want, but you better get a new crystal ball.
let's change that bet. How much do you want to bet on Chivas not getting better in the next three years? I mean, yeah, if Chivas is this bad for the next two years, they might want to think about getting out of the league, but be reasonable. Even the Metros couldn't stay this bad for three years in a row, so you'd be betting on absolute fantasy.
It seems to me chivas needs to reach out to other soccer fans in LA not just the mexicans , they need to be a team for the city of LA not a team for people of a certain ethnic background
I appreciate that they don't try to play like everyone else but at the same time if they don't get better it will do no favors to the development of the league or futbol in this country. I also enjoy disliking them for all the ignoramice shite that seems to fall out of the mouth of the owner (good humor I tell ya). Hopefully the Garcia experiment works otherwise I see these guys sucking for years. Good Mexicans won't want to play for them and they won't have automatic ownership of every other good Mexican American (limited talent pool). Hope they don't sink this ship.
Chivas is a good thing. Unfortunately they underestimated the league. They need to bring some quality players and play real ball. I am actually looking forward to more Mexican teams coming into MLS - Club America, etc. We need more rivalries, passion, diversity, but with quality.
