Telemundo used "reach" in the press release (which is defined as the number of viewers that watched at least 6 minutes of the telecast) instead of the tradition "ratings" (which is based on the average number of viewers that watched the entire telecast.) Medialifemagazine.com reported the final rating today for Chivas vs Club America on Telemundo: 0.9% household rating, 2% share, 1.1 million households, 2.159 million viewers. http://www.medialifemagazine.com/ar..._64/Among-older-viewers-it-s-a-tight-race.asp In terms of average number of viewers, Chivas vs Club America on Telemundo on April 10, 2011 is DOWN 26.7% vs the same match April 4, 2010. A 26.7% decrease in viewers is NOT good. It all depends on what channel and what time the games are. The highest rated clasico games will be 1) On Univision 2) On Sunday NIGHT on the West Coast Telemundo always gets lower ratings than Univision One more thing Pumas and Toluca don't get their 1 million viewers per home games since they moved to Telemundo. That 1pm et / 10am pt slot on Univision was money each week to get 1 million viewers. If I controlled the rights to a big Mexican team (Cruz Azul, Pumas, Toluca) I'd negotiate the rights to my games for Univison on that timeslot. They losing money, man
Thanks for the update. I found it interesting that Monterrey-Santos made the top 20 network sports programs in a week that included the NCAA championship game, the Masters, NYY-BoSox, Chivas-America, Celts-Heat, Bulls-Magic, etc. Of course, Poker after Dark also took 6 of those slots ... For another point of comparison, the Mexico-Venezuela friendly the previous week ended with a 1.7, 4, 2002, 3578 (hh rating, share, hh, viewers).

Particularly disturbing to those in the industry is the match last October on Univision, which drew WORSE than the one last April on Telemundo. Furthermore, the Tigres-Santos final 2nd leg on December 11, 2011 drew more viewers than either superclasico: 2.3 million viewers. Another data point that may point to the eroding support of the two big Mexican clubs in the U.S.: Barcelona vs Man Utd on FOX (in English) in May 2011 drew more viewers (1.4% household rating, 4 share, 2.6 million viewers ages 2+.) than either superclasico. -- The rating for the superclasico on Sunday April 8 (7pm ET/4pm PT on Telemundo) should be available to the public on Wednesday April 18 at medialifemagazine.com
The press release from Telemundo is out: http://www.nbcumv.com/mediavillage/...s/2012/04/09/telemundosftbol1334018285042.xml Just as I suspected: 1.876 million average viewers (ages 2+) over the entire 2-hour time slot, which is an ALL TIME LOW for the Chivas Guadalajara vs Club America superclasico since Nielsen started tracking the Spanish-language broadcast networks using the NTI national general market sample in 2006: Date | Network | Matchup | household rating (%) | share | households (000) | viewers ages 2+ (000) | notes 2/26/2006 Univision Chivas vs Club América 1.3 2 1427 2588 9/30/2006 TeleFutura Chivas vs Club América 1.0 2 1116 1974 11/30/2006 TeleFutura Club América vs Chivas 1.2 2 1388 2494 Semifinal 1st leg 12/03/2006 Univision Chivas vs Club América 1.8 3 2048 3956 Semifinal 2nd leg 3/18/2007 Univision Club América vs Chivas 1.9 3 2122 4290 10pm ET/7pm PT 5/17/2007 TeleFutura Club América vs Chivas 1.2 2 1352 2468 Semifinal 1st leg 5/20/2007 Univision Chivas vs Club América 1.7 3 1918 3416 Semifinal 2nd leg 10/28/2007 Univision Club América vs Chivas 1.7 3 1916 3650 4/13/2008 TeleFutura Chivas vs Club América 1.3 2 1418 3018 10/26/2008 Univision Club América vs Chivas 1.5 2 1705 3369 4/19/2009 Telemundo Chivas vs Club América 1.0 2 1156 2173 10/25/2009 Univision Club América vs Chivas 1.4 2 1628 3168 4/4/2010 Telemundo Chivas vs Club América 1.3 2 1531 2946 10/24/2010 Univision Club América vs Chivas 1.3 2 1464 2656 4/10/2011 Telemundo Chivas vs Club América 0.9 2 1100 2159 10/23/2011 Univision Club América vs Chivas 0.9 2 1075 1939 4/8/2012 Telemundo Chivas vs Club América ? ? ? 1876 Source: Nielsen Television Index (NTI) via medialifemagazine.com
I wonder how much of this, if any, is a result of the gaining popularity and quality of MLS. A secondary consideration may be a team like Tijuana taking a chunk of the TV market from the more classically popular teams.
I think there could be a couple of factors The game fell on easter sunday, for one. Also, it was on Telemundo, games on telemundo tend to get lower ratings than Univision
MLS is about the same as it has been for the past 6 seasons or so. Still well below what ESPN, Inc. was looking for. The GLOBAL BRANDS are the ones that have gained ground during the past 3 years. Particularly the "big 3" of FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Manchester United. Tijuana siphons only a small part of the San Diego market away from Chivas and Club America. Club America in particular has lost a lot of viewers in the U.S.
Did you even look at the table of TV viewership above? The telecast on Univision in October 2011 did WORSE than the telecast on Telemundo in April 2011. The telecast on Telemundo in April 2012 drew about the same number of viewers as the telecast on Univision in October 2011. There is no bottom yet for the U.S. viewership of the Mexican superclasico.
I guess Traffic and Al Jazira (mostly on line) own international rights to liga MX and the MNT, so at least 1 game per week are available in 41 countries. No word on the $$$$. http://eleconomista.com.mx/deportes/2012/01/05/liga-se-transmite-todo-mundo
Yes, he kept creating sock accounts and talking to him self about IbEn sport stealing money from the Arab owner or some shit like that.
rofl! I was certain he was paid to work the social networks and promote a certain company. this clears it up for me lol
Now if you hate the Azteca or ESPN Deportes Spanish commentators, how about English commentators? Alexi Lalas anyone? http://www.multichannel.com/content/espn-kick-select-liga-mx-matches-english/142011 http://frontrow.espn.go.com/2013/03...-platform-cross-language-coverage-of-liga-mx/ http://www.ussoccerplayers.com/2013/03/mexico-and-primetime-soccer-in-the-usa.html
