According to the front page on mlsnet.com, the game between Chivas and the Quakes will be on ABC at 4 ET Saturday. Thanks to ABC/ESPN for doing the right thing. Tune in to ABC on Saturday, April 9, when Thiago Martins (pictured) and Club Deportivo Chivas USA visit the San Jose Earthquakes at Spartan Stadium at 4 p.m. ET.
this is fine - i'll take it but wouldn't it be better if they showed the first Chivas v. Galaxy game on ABC. Now that'll look nice on TV.
What about dismal attendance in SJ - how will that look on TV? Hopefully the fans in SJ can get our for this one...
God, I hope we don't have to hear more whining from Wynalda about how 'Chivas HAS to get better....they just HAVE to get better'...Shut up already, and have a bit of patience (their finishing was the problem, not goal 2 goal) Of course, Wynalda was pretty much an impatient jerk the last few years of playing career, so go figure..
Chivas will get better. Vargara is going to demand it. That's one part of Chivas in this league that's really going to be a bonus. There'll be no settling for the mediocrity on display Saturday. Their only problem is Rongen's the coach.
San Jose say needs to get it out in the media and to the general population that this game will be on broadcast TV and to get out to the stadium.
It was a typo on MLS's part that this game was on ABC. It has now been fixed and is showing up as an ESPN2 game Andy
Someone else important will die to mess things up again. Is this three seasons in a row where national news has messed up MLS opening day? Last year I think we Regan. Year before that Iraq?
Correct. Discussion on another board indicated that ESPN/ABC will either refund SUM's money or give them another ESPN 2 game later on this season (depending on what works best for both parties).
Yeah, but Quiroz may be free from his job in Europe. Any chance Senor V could lure him back to MLS with a big paycheck? Hmmm? A few more losses and I'd wager someone will be brought in to right the ship.
I thought it was Afghanistan. Crap, maybe that was a Nats game. Whatever happens, soccer games always just have horrible luck about TV.
Plus, unless they wanted to start it earlier, they'd bump into local news. For something big (Super Bowl, BCS, etc.) this has been done, but for MLS, they may not want to. But LA/Chivas would be great for ABC.
Not entirely true though. ABC did still telecast the game, some places showed a split-screen. Unfortunately for soccer fans, the large majority of the country apparently got no soccer at all. (And I believe there was something on espn/espn2 that couldn't be bumped. )
Yeah, the NFL Films presents the Phlly Eagles 2002 yearbook. In all seriousness, I found nothing on mlsnet that states the match will be on ABC.. Maybe they corrected the typo.
