I'm glad someone else picked up on that. To me the news wasn't Beckham, but that there were other investors we hadn't heard of yet.

Hiatus? Relegation? No, Chivas USA/LA2 needs to rebrand and continue operations
    http://sports.yahoo.com/news/hiatus-relegation-no-chivas-usa-212203623.html

Comment: My take on the whole Chivas USA thing. It's unfortunate that Chivas USA isn't making it in MLS and specifically the LA market. Perhaps the idea that trying to market a club in the United States using ethnic ties from another country wasn't the way to go. The column above where the columnist is proposing that a possible (temporary) solution for Chivas USA may be to demote to USL PRO doesn't seem right or possible, given MLS Commissioner Garber's stance that he doesn't believe in promotion/relegation for MLS. Professional soccer in the USA is seeing a competitive surve now, with USL Pro and NASL in the mix. Perhaps a probable long-term solution for Chivas USA would be to leave MLS and join NASL. The logic for that would be this: Chivas USA would still be in the LA market, where they are already established, but would be the NASL entry into the LA market in their western expansion planning. This would lessen the financial burden on spending and making a profit, give Chivas USA an opportunity to clean out the dead wood in the organization, and with NASL's split season and alignment with foreign player transfer windows, would better serve Chivas USA ownership group from Mexico better.

???? The long-term solution for "Chivas USA" will be to stop existing as is after the team rebrands. There will be a NASL team in LA or somewhere in S. California at some point in the future, but I can assure you they will not be named Chivas USA.

that simply will not happen- MLS owns the chivas franchise and make up to $100 mill by selling to new owners in the LA market, which apparently will happen soon- nobody will pay that kind of money to be in a second tier league

the larger question is- when will the new team start in MLS as they have no corporate sponsorship, no fan base/supporters group, no branding, and no stadium? i just dont see it happening in 2015 and even 2016 seems ambitious- that leaves 2017-2018

For some reason, I can't see Chinese and Korean investors working together. Is it common?

Chivas USA supporters... I ask you: The new LA2 won't have ANY connection to what you are following now. It truly is a NEW expansion team. So... are you going to follow them merely because they AREN'T the Galaxy? Or are you still enamored with the Chivas thing...?

I know this is from a Galaxy fan trying to wind you up, but its actually an interesting question. How many Chivas fans bought into the club's specific culture to such an extent that they won't be automatic supporters of LA2 (which MLS will launch as a new business entity)?

My short answer: I do think that continuing the Chivas academy and signing Cubo and Kennedy as LA2 players, with a loan during the hiatus, will provide enough connection to the original franchise that Chivas fans will likely transfer their loyalty to LA2, whether its rebranded as "Atletico Los Angeles" (in keeping with the Latino-flavored heritage) or something like "LAFC" (the more generic move). It would help to provide continuity through a USL Pro club (it could be called "LA Goats" or some such until the new brand is ready to be rolled out) during the hiatus also.

Well, at any rate, it seems like things will be coming to some kind of conclusion soon. I just want to say to all the CUSA people left out there, that through all the ups and downs (mostly downs) it's been pretty great following the team with you all. I don't know where the future will take any of us, myself included, so who's to say if we'll see one another again. Either way, thanks for the memories.

It would add another 20+ minutes to an already 2.5+ hour drive. I'm not saying I won't try to make games, but it will be just as difficult, if not more so than it is to make games @ the SHC. Also, I'm not sure what the future holds for me as far as staying in S. California is concerned.

I want to take in a game in both SJ and Portland myself. Providence Park seems like a really cool play to watch a game and the new stadium for the Quakes looks amazing.

Well then they would be North Korean investors, not Korean and Chinese investors, wouldn't they be?

Korean could be used to describe either North or South Koreans.

Yes and neither would be Chinese, let alone American, Vietnamese-American or Malaysian which are the real investors.

IF they can get a Korean investor maybe they can also get Samsung to invest or at least sponsor the team. no way Samsung would allow the team to be as bad as it has been
