Back then you had some impressive players. Sun Jihai, Shao Jiayi, Li Weifeng, Li Tie, and Zheng Zhi, these players were awesome.

sun jihai = still plays today
    shao jiayi = just retired
li weifeng = working for club management
li tie = works as a coach
zheng zhi = still plays today for evergrande

netizens on hupu is asking gao hongbo to consider putting zheng zhi as substitute player; but i guess this won't be happening because gao hongbo never really called up zheng zhi in his tenure (he only called zheng zhi up once on a friendly)

the chinese FA has not announced if gao hongbo will continue his job yet.
i hope they won't replace him with a foreign coach (if that happens, camacho 2.0 might happen)

Judging by Gao Hongbo's reaction after the win when asked this question, I'm afraid it's a done deal. The excuse will be if we look further into the future ie WCF we'll need someone a lot better than Gao.

I wouldn't mind it if it's going to be Lippi. He has the ability and common sense to figure things out. But less than that kind of caliber, any new foreign coach should be either an assistant coach to Head Coach Gao or someone who can work closely with Gao as the head of the Chinese coaching staff, otherwise it's indeed a repeat of the Camacho fiasco.

Living here in Shanghai and supporting SIPG I'm still over the moon with Wu Lei's performance Tuesday. His effort set up the first goal and his run into space drilled the second. His haircut can thus be excused.

If we hire a foreign coach it has to be someone of really high quality, someone like Lippi. Otherwise it's better to stick with a local who can understand the players better.

Realistic for China to at least get 3rd place and move to the playoff round?

At best. I just don't see China coming above Korea or Iran, and the Uzbeks are playing well at the moment. If China ends up 4th in the group, I reckon that would be a decent campaign for them, and anything more would be a bonus.

Very even group in my eyes, South Korea and Iran clearly favourites, but Uzbekistan is not far behind them in terms of strength, and I´d consider us and Qatar just slightly behind Uzbekistan with Syria the weakest team in the group. I think any team is capable of taking points from each other so no team can really relax here. I can´t really predict the results in this group, but a third place finish does seem very possible.

Gao Hongbo said he will arrange two friendlies before September. "The primary choice would be a West Asian team, since 3 of 5 of our opponents are from West Asia. Also (I) need to find a friendly competitor that is similar to Uzbekistan."

According to news, Australia wished to invite China for two friendly games; but Gao Hongbo have already contacted Saudi Arabia and Iraq for friendlies.

    Best case scenario for China:
    - 1 point vs. Iran and South Korea
    - 4 points vs. Qatar and Uzbekistan
    - 6 points vs. Syria

This means we can get 3rd place. If Iran or South Korea slips up, there is a small chance we can get 2nd.
    Never say no!

What lineup would you guys like Gao Hongbo to put out for the final round?

    For me:

    Gao Lin
    Wu Lei
Ji Xiang - Huang Bowen - Zhang Xizhe - Hao Junmin
Ren Hang - Feng Xiaoting - Zhang Linpeng - Wang Shenchao
    Zeng Cheng

My XI (would like Zheng Zhi but we all know he's not getting picked by Gao Hongbo):

    Zeng Cheng
Zhang Linpeng - Feng Xiaoting - Ren Hang - Jiang Zhipeng
Huang Bowen - Hao Junmin - Wu Xi
Wu Lei - Gao Lin - Zhang Xizhe

That starting line-up would probably be the best that china can offer at the moment, but I would take out Jiang Zhipeng as he is a liability defensively and doesn't really offer that much going forward. Really unfortunate that Zou Zheng suffered that grave injury or else he would have been a great choice. Ren Hang plays LB for Jiangsu so maybe move him to the left and find another CB? Really want to see how younger players like Li Ang and Shi Ke would do.

Zou Zheng would be my first choice if he wasn't injured at the moment.
