Belgium reminds me on Ivory Coast. Players around Drogba were promoted as one new wave of football expectations. Similar thing happened with several great Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese, English generations who could not win anything. From today's perspective we see this in Argentina, France.

Even Belgian league seems pretty solid.

Congrats on your China Cup title. I knew that Iceland will be defensive.

I think their main problem is the managers. A guy like Sampaoli could turn them into a cohesive unit. The previous Belgian manager and now Martinez do not have the acumen to win anything IMO... but the talent is there and with a good manager they could be lethal.

They still think that their players are enough for victories. Similar is with Croatian coach, he is weak, no previous career at all, those 7,8 better players just use their individual quality. Belgium has much more individual quality.
Because of their technical nature, a lot of them became injured: Kabasele, Kompany, Alderweireld, Vermaelen, Engels, Dembele, Fellaini...

Having said that, we seem to be on the same road. Pizzi is not as good as Sampaoli IMO and I feel that, at the moment, it is our more experienced players that are lifting the team in key moments, rather than a collective effort.

Sampaoli and Bielsa were great coachs.

I second that, even though Pizzi has been fortunate enough to find the abilities to get a result.

Curious to see how we do in the Confederations Cup which is such a short tournament to begin with. Most importantly our qualification to the World Cup is the main objective.

JAP is not as great as Sampaoli but he's also not horrible: tactically Chile played great vs. Mexico, Colombia and Argentina in the Copa; as well as Uruguay in WCQ. And that Colombia match was a great display of how this group of players can in fact defend, be positionally smart as well as tactically disciplined.

He has a different repertoire to what Chileans have gotten used to the last 8 years or so and that's not necessarily a bad thing. It doesn't have to be all gung-ho 24/7.
