You haven't watched any Bayern matches the kast two years, didn't you? Robben has completely changed his game, for Bayern he tracks back, defends corners, tackles strikers, a complete reinvention By the way, did anybody notice that Robben spoke to the ref after the match pointing at the crowd? Did he suggest that anything untoward came from the fans?
it took holland a lot to win this match. it wasnt a cake walk like their previous games. second goal scored in stoppage time on a counter while chile was up high trying to tie. game was very even. Chile is a great team.
Dutch possession 37% Chile shots 7 NL 13 On target Chile 1 NL 8. The Dutch 532 is not pretty, but it's not parking the bus either!
Yes, but we still lost here. Tomorrow new day. Good win by Netherlands. Wishing good progress for them.
Classy comment, thanks! For Chili its time to end the bad streak vs Brazil. Watched Chili and Brazil play, hope and expect Chili to succeed.
Chile and the Netherlands are very similar; persistent talented players who overall keep the team consistent enough in international footy but haven't won a trophy (or in the Dutch's case, just one?).
"They" did it to plunder your wallet and (through any given number of followup riggings, not necessarily related to football at all) achieve world domination!
Fking chile couldnt kill Netherlands Van Gaal showing again why he is one of the best coaches in the world I hope Brazil qualify 2nd
They could have easily avoided each other if they all won the freaking group. Chile had that chance today
The Euro bashing on this forum is hilarious. We have a nice word for this in Dutch: calimero complex. Look it up. Chile had 1 shot on goal the entire game. ONE. We scored two legitimate goals and had far more shots on target. How can anyone possibly claim our victory was "totally unfair"? It may not have been pretty but the game went exactly according to plan for us. Keep in mind that we only needed a draw to win this group and we were missing Van Persie. I do have a lot of respect for Chile and I hope they get far into the tournament. They're certainly one of the most exciting teams in this WC although it didn't really show today (same goes for us).
The referee made lots of mistakes through the game, but he had lots of calls and lots of no calls, for both teams the same. The players didn't help him much, as diving became an issue where both teams tried to get the best from it. Maybe the referee should've awarded a couple of cards on players of both teams for dives, but he finally decided to not give any over this issue. In any case the result of this game didn't pass over the referee's misjudgements. Netherlands won fair and square.
I am not saying you did not deserve to win the group, BUT.... Was part of the game plan to constantly foul Chile when they had any momentum going forward? Match stats http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/matches/round=255931/match=300186470/statistics.html#nosticky. Dutch commit 25 fouls (only 6 clean tackles), Chile had 64% possession, so had the ball for 57.6 minutes, so we have a dutch foul every 2.3 minutes of Chile's possession. Pretty hard to build an offense with that kind of illegal disruption of your game. I am surprised Blind is not permanently fused to Alexis with all hacking he was doing. You play a nice counter game, but does your defense have to rely so much on fouling. Stat wise you were fouling more than in the 2010 final, 28 fouls in 120 minutes. Spain had 57% possession so they had the ball for 68.4 minutes, giving us a dutch foul for every 2.44 minutes of Spanish possession. This Chile game was as cynical (not violent) by the Dutch as the the 2010 final. http://www.fifa.com/tournaments/archive/worldcup/southafrica2010/statistics/matches/index.html What will you do when you play a good and tall team that can take advantage of those free kicks?
It's the consequence of aggressive pressing in midfield combined with a defensive strategy. One-on-one duels lead to a lot of fouls. In each game the Netherlands had roughly 25% more ball recovery than the opponent. The goal isn't just to break up attacks and re-position, but to actively create turnovers. Given that the team plays a high defensive line, fouls conceded are usually far away from the goal, so they don't lead to dangerous free kicks.
