I doubt Sampaoli will rest anyone! This games seems to me to be really the key to the success in the whole tournament for our team! Playing against Mexico or Croation in the next round and against Ivory Coast/Japan/Costa Rica in the quarterfinals is a golden opportunity for this generation to reach the semifinals!

Yeah Valdivia will start, and depending on the result we will see if Vidal or Gutierrez comes in.

Even though he appeared soft vs the Spaniards, I'd like Felipe Gutierrez to get another chance and display what makes him a good player in Twente by going up against the Dutch side.

    Another one :
Listening to the TV after the game between USA and Portugal, the news reporters said that in Brazil, the police discovered a huge crime organized net, who sold thousands of false tickets for this WC (even travel agencies fell under their hands).

Guess from which country they were from ..........

Took off work today for this one. Can't wait. SO NERVOUS. Let's avoid Brazil today!! I think we have the talent to get past Brazil, but the officiating this cup has been suspect. I don't think we can beat Brazil AND the refs.

Not a good game for us today. 0 sense of urgency until we got scored on. But that's too late. We needed a win and we botched it. Well, I don't see us beating Brazil at home so good cup, at least we beat Spain.

Chile got reffed out of a win. Several clear penalties denied. 30 fouls by Holland and 1 yellow.

Calmao compa.

    No Vidal, no party.

Gato Silva, horrible hoy.

This is how I saw it from where I sat...

    The positive:

    • Correct performance from Bravo.
    • The backline also held together well considering an opponent that is known for quick, direct counter-attacks. Medel and Jara have not had a single poor game so far; hopefully, that can continue!
    • Gary Medel: One of the most important players in the history of Chile.
    • Alexis Sanchez: Every time he had the ball, he looked like Chile’s best chance going forward.
    • To my knowledge, all players are available for the next game, which looks almost certain to be against Brazil.
    • If anything, this result will be useful for Sampaoli. As some say, you learn more from a defeat.

    The negative:

    • The midfield, in general, had a bad day. Like I said many posts ago, the Dutch couldn’t care less if an opponent wins more possession (64% for Chile), as long as it is away from their defensive zone. Every time that Sanchez ran down to midfield to receive passes and create plays, it became increasingly evident that Sampaoli’s team finds it difficult to crack a team that bunkers.
    • We played for free-kicks way too much! To earn them through intelligent and creative play is absolutely fine, but the guys went out looking for them; this is not the way to beat an opponent that sits back.
    • Sampaoli’s decision to start Gutiérrez, while not costly, was ineffective. In Vidal (who was correctly left on the bench, in my opinion), Sampaoli has a guy like Medel: fearless and ‘combat-ready’ for these encounters. Gutiérrez is a good player, but doesn’t have the nerve to lead in a match of this importance. Perhaps, Beausejour could have been a more correct option as the guy has the tank to run all day and, possibly, could have combined well with Mena on the left.
    • If the opponent sets up two walls and there is no one like Valdivia who can thread the needle, the full-backs need to whip low balls into the box or find guys like Sanchez and Vargas inside the box. This didn’t happen (high crosses will never work against tall Dutch centre backs, especially with two shorter forwards). In addition, the midfielders were not prepared to attack the loose balls, if any, inside the box.
    • Vargas was quiet. However, to be fair, he had to deal with very little in the form of good supply from the midfield.
    • There were about 3 or 4 penalty calls from Chilean players. I thought that one of these should have been given around the 70th minute mark. With that said, we had 1 shot on target out of 7, compared to 8 from 13 attempts from the Dutch. It’s fair to say that the loss was deserved.

I'm gonna go ahead and say this:

The whole fear of Brazil narrative is one that the Chilean fans and commentators continue to hold. The funny thing is that this Chilean team doesn't fear Brazil. Nerves are natural, but I don't think that being nervous over a possible or probable encounter equates to fear.

Also, we have no control over the external factors that may surround this game. It's possible that the officials will favour Brazil, but the players have to work with what is in their control.

If Vidal and Valdivia (and other important players) can be available for this game, you can count on one thing: they will treat this like the final game of their lives. We won't see fear from the likes of Medel, Vidal, Bravo, Valdivia (if he plays) and even guys like Pinilla (if he gets minutes). We will have leaders out there who will give it their all; that's all we can hope for right now.

The Netherlands was also a "final" and it ended poorly. I don't see much happening against the home team. They will win and most likely win well, and then all the international sports media will talk about is how Brasil looks to be the WC winner after their brilliant performance in Belo Horizonte.
