Some details of Fire-Morelia deal (Radio Unica)

    Some “details” of Fire-Morelia agreement
    Exclusive from Radio Unica…
Who would have thought it ? The team whose Front Office makes most sense (the Fire) has a partner that also does. Mr. Salinas from Club Morelia of Mexico went into the details of the partnership plan to be made with Chicago….The main points are the following:
-First he denied categorically that they would be willing to start a new MLS team …”we do not think it would go with the essence of what MLS is trying to be” Wow, someone who actually makes sense of things! Sounds already more knowledgeable than our Chivas/America friends...
-Instead, they are “joining” Chicago” How? By providing the Chicago Fire with a player from Morelia’s first team (either Mexican or foreigner).....He mentioned it would not be someone just for the sake of the name, but someone who would fit into the Fire team, according to what Sarachan feels he needs the most….He did not rule out it could be one of their well known players, as long as the Fire thought it is someone who could fit in….Can't be more acommodating than that
-Another amazing move they are planning is to establish an A-League team by 2005, most likely in the Chicago area, so that they can start partnering with Chicago in a more day to day basis….His vision is to have increasingly more exchanges of players as time goes by
-Also, members of the Chicago first team, just like this season, will train with Morelia’s first team for a couple of weeks…There is always the chance that one of these players joins up with the MFL club..In this case, it would also be either an American or foreign player….
I think this sounds like a really great deal, then again I'm not a Fire fan, so i'd like to know your opinions

Sorry!..But no, i believe he said IF (meaning if Sarachan preferred it so) the player to join the Fire was Mexican, he probably would be one of the many locals they have (from Michuacan-sp?), since this is is precisely also a community that has a great population in the Chicago area

Either way, a Mexican or someone else not from the US (or without a greencard) would count as a Senior International.
They would have to be U-23 for us to take them with the current roster.

    Oops My bad.

Damani Ralph is a TI, I believe. Hopefully he will be again next season.

How about starting a separate Mexican MLS league?
leave this league the way it is.

I'm assuming if this does happen, then the A-League team could probably use the SSS that is likely to built.

I haven't heard any details other than those provided in the post. Having said that, all of this looks quite interesting and promising on its face. Although, I don't quite know who we would let go in order to fit a full international. He had better be freaking good.

The A-League team is a very interesting idea. Less financial risk to put forth while establishing a brand presence in the market.

Plus we could work out a deal like MLB has with their farm teams, effectively giving us a reserve team, no?

I don't think A-League is really structed to operate with MLS reserve teams. Iof true reserves are ever estabilshed, I see them as more likely being in D3 or outside the USL setup, especially since there is no USL-MLS agreement any longer.

But if I remember correctly, the setup is currently that MLS teams and A-League teams can make individual deals with each other. It's just not a league-wide thing like it was before.

You're absolutely right, however, the A-League is a Division II league and finally seems to be weeding out some of the sediment at its bottom, sending down to D3 or dropping it altogether.

I don't think the A-League is the right place for a true MLS reserve team.

it's a press release... it can be completely quoted...

  16. I'm waiting for the details of the 2004 FIRE preseason fan tour to Michoacan. :D

Maybe you can merge this with the other thread since there seems to be more beneath the veneer of the press release.

Thought I would paste here what Morelia has on their website. I wasn't familiar with all of this. Sorry that I'm too tired to translate. 2 more cases to read before tomorrow.

I'm posting this because I don't want anyone else to search as long as I did for the same material. If you have any specific translating questions, I'll do that tomorrow (today?).

One interesting note, the agreement says that we'll play them here in 2003 and 2006, and we'll play them there in 2004 and 2007 (2 out of every 3 years). This is assuming that they use the home team listed first that is used in Europe.

O.K. another interesting note. Two tournaments with AEG teams and two Mexican teams are planned.

    More. . . (sigh, but I'm interested)
loans of up to 3 months with under 18 players, 1 to 3 per team. (Hmm, Capano is only 16, who else is eligible?)
To reduce costs, the teams are going to try to work with universities to use dorm rooms for housing.

That was the original 'proposed' agreement from a year ago.

Some things have changed here and there.

[Sigh] Wish the Fire would do a similar agreement with a Polish team [/Sigh]

BTW, looks good. How about the A-League team playing in Naperville?

Well, one, I doubt that's their market (though it would be a good idea) and b, the press relase tlaks about a PDL team, not an A-League one.

  23. It looks like Monarcas could send 3-4 top prospects from their Fuerzas Basicas to spend the summer in Chicago with the CFR. Maybe a young (U-23) first team player or two could hook up with the senior side a la the two from Boca who were on the MetroScum roster this past season. Finally, turning the partnership the other way, someone like Jonathon Bolanos could find some first team playing time in the MFL, where he's already had some success.

And somebody added another SI on the roster and said that Ralph was actually a TI. So, if Ralph is a Transitional International because he's just making his way onto the Jamaica team, what was he when he was just from Jamaica? What if the player from Morelia was just a Mexican, not on the national team? What are the limits for foreigners with no national team connections?
