I am actually seeing conflicting reports as to his fandom. I would love for him to be a Sox fan, we could use all of the help we can get, but haven’t seen anything concrete other than initial memes that he is a Cub fan.

Im sorry but everyone knows who the real Cardinals are (bring’em back damnit!). Also, he IS A Sox fan. So hopefully he can get Reinsdorf to sell the team. https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/spo...hether-new-pope-is-a-cubs-or-sox-fan/3741532/
Sorry, Cubs fans: Pope Leo roots for the White Sox, his brother says Before he became pope, Chicago-born Robert Prevost was raised in a household of Cubs and Cardinals fans. Yet his allegiances were to the Sox. https://www.nbcnews.com/sports/mlb/pope-leo-chicago-cubs-white-sox-mlb-rcna205727
About goddamn time somebody someone in Congress breaks down the issues. Senator Murphy systematically breaking down what the problems at (the horribly named) Department of Homeland Security and a serious rebuke to what Secretary Noem has been doing. This is probably one of the best speeches in committee I have EVER heard. We often hear passionate emotional speeches and I applaud that, but this is a forensic dismantling of a woman who arrogantly thinks she and the administration she belongs to are above the law. THEY ARE… pic.twitter.com/l3cgi7l3Ya— 𝔗𝔯𝔲𝔱𝔥 𝔐𝔞𝔱𝔱𝔢𝔯𝔰 (@politicsusa46) May 9, 2025 Direct link to the video (I hope it works, as Tik Tok is blocked on my computer0. http://vm.tiktok.com/ZNd6nAsuy/ THIS is exactly what the Democrats need to do in every hearing. They need to use facts, logic, passion and the LAW to support what they say. Senator Durbin used to be quite good at doing this, as was Congresswoman Katie Porter (although she was a bit snarky in her presentation). Of course, it will not receive any wide spread coverage in the media, since the media prefer the poo flinging, since it "makes for good tv" (as the head of CBS admitted in 2016 about the coverage of the Tr*mp campaign). Not to mention, her deer in the headlights look every time the camera cuts back to her is priceless. I need to find and watch the entire hearing.
Second video, taking down the moron Kash Patel. MURRAY: It was due last week. By law.PATEL: I understand.MURRAY: You're not gonna follow the law? ... And you have no timeline?PATEL: NoMURRAY: Hmm. We're not having a budget hearing without a budget request. So where is it? pic.twitter.com/wS0lxG09EG— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) May 8, 2025 (as you all know, I generally do not post from Xcrement, but it is the only place I have seen this). Again, if the link does not work, I apologize. The gist: Patel was legally obligated to submit a budget request and did not. It was due last week. This was a budget hearing, to discuss the budget proposal. He is questioned as to why he refuses to follow the law or, even, provide a timeline for compliance. He then just lies that he is working within the law, when by law it was due last week. Competent people doing their jobs and calling out those who do not. It is refreshing to see.
Unfortunately, unless and until there are consequences for not following the law, I don’t think simply pointing out that these absolute ********ing ghouls aren’t following the law will have much impact. Like, obviously and as acknowledged the corporate national news media will do little to expose it, and the people doing it will continue to do it. Like, why wouldn’t they? They have no shame, if they are aware of how horrible they actually are (are they? Idk and I’m not sure it matters) it certainly has not compelled them to do the right thing yet, and I have a better chance of touching the moon than exposing them has compelling them to do the right thing any time soon. What likely happens is they keep being scum until they get fired, and THEN the media will turn them into darlings for a minute or two, just long enough for them to pimp their tell-all book titled ‘I was fine with all of this until I got fired’. Not that I don’t appreciate the call outs. Or the fact that, other than a message board dedicated to soccer, I wouldn’t have even seen them (thanks xtomx!). It just so damn exhausting seeing that all it takes for our system of checks and balances to crumble is people ignoring them, and being reminded of it in some way or another every day. Trump, Patel, Noem, Vance, et al could literally take a piss on the constitution and there would no consequences for them at all. The best we can hope for is midterms to make a lot of congresspeople unemployed but even then, they’ll get fat pay days in the private sector and the dems that replace them will once again fail to do anything of substance that would prevent the same thing from happening during the next election cycle.
Yep...and I only found the clips on the National Politics Thread on the Columbus Boards (they have a very lively debate there)! 100% all of this. I completely agree it will not make a difference, but it still matters. I am of the mind that work still matters. Integrity still matters. Holding people accountable (well, attempting to) still matters. Doing one's job still matters. I am not 90% checked out of politics (from November to March, it was damned near 100%), due to exhaustion, but what Senator Murphy and Senator Murray did in calling these Cabinet members out in intelligent, rational, factual, and professional ways matters.
Mayor of Newark arrested and detained at a private prison that was designated as an ICE facility. This is what’s so frustrating- things that are not against the law are resulting in arrest, but things that are unlawful, if not illegal, the best we can hope for is a stern public lecture. I do not doubt that we will start to see this happening to more Governors, Mayors, and other politicians that try to stand up to the current administration. https://bsky.app/profile/reichlinmelnick.bsky.social/post/3lor5a6ppbs2f
The irony of Alina Habba's statement here (well, the irony of Alina Habba's entire life) should not go unnoticed. "NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW!" Are you sure about that one, Alina? Please go back just about a year and check your notes there. Maybe consult with your client at that point.

I can’t believe Joe Biden is allowing this to happen! That absolute piece of shit is well aware of it, conservatives have long played the ‘she shouldn’t call herself a doctor because she’s not an MD’ angle for her specifically. They rarely do this with men, obvs. It’s disgusting.
Yes, on both counts. Right wing asshat, and former advisor to Victor Orban, Seb Gorka (sorry, Dr. Seb Gorka) always refers to himself as Dr. and received his PhD. from Corvinus Unversity of Budapest. I never hear anyone bitch about that.

So now the Barn Burners don't want The Chicago Jewish Alliance to buy Tix for games, calling them "Zionist" on former Twitter. Anyone who uses Zionism as an epithet is unveiling who they are. It's not a slur, they either don’t understand what it means or they’re just being antisemitic. Zionism is the belief that Jews have a right to a homeland in Israel. That’s it. Using it to justify excluding a Jewish group from soccer games? Sounds like straight-up hate.
I am guessing it is in reaction to this? The Chicago Jewish Alliance is hosting a fundraiser at the next two Fire home matches. I know absolutely nothing about them (other than looking at the website just now), but I have learned one thing. They really despise Mayor Johnson (but so does just about everyone else). https://www.instagram.com/chicagojewishalliance/p/DJk0yoiNQ2s/ chicagojewishalliance Edited•1wSoccer. Solidarity. Chicago.
