"Inconceivable" is a word that should be used very judiciously, where that homo sapien is concerned.

  3. When everything is an "emergency" nothing is an emergency.

He is already deporting under a 1798 law so I think it is very conceivable that he would use an 1807 law to target protesters here or even politicians. Why wouldn’t he and who would stop him?

    I know.

If anyone should be inconceivable, it is him. It is shocking he managed to knocked up THREE women...that we know about because he actually married them. To think he has conceived and we have seen the spawn he has produced!:eek::eek::eek:
I mean he is not Elon Musk or Nick Cannon, but still.

    Oh, wait, wrong word.;)

I just wrote my Congressperson about that. Tom Tiffany (WI-7) was spouting off about the Alien Enemies Act, like he know jack or shit about it.

Pretty clear that he had never read it, but just picked information from Fox and NY Post (the two "sources" he cited in his newsletter. Possibly better than the Washington Examiner that he frequently cites).

I also read the White House "Proclamation" about the subject from March 15, 2025 and, not surprisingly, it misquotes the Act as well.

These people are so incredibly dangerous and are also equally incredibly dumb.

The largest two-day declines in modern stock market history:

    1) October 1987 (Reagan) - Black Monday
    2) October 2008 (Bush II)- Congress votes down AIG and bank bailouts
    3) March 2020 (Trump)- COVID shuts down the economy
    4) Yesterday and today- Global tariffs for no apparent reason (Trump)

The first three of those represented essentially the bottom of the market. Subsequent one-year returns:
    23%
    21%
    66%

Recessions were occurring during all of those rallies too.

All occured with a Republican in the White House. Two with the current Imbecile in Chief.

And, yet, people vote the Republicans in because they are 'good for the economy.'
    They are not.

The only possible 'good for the economy' by Republicans are lower taxes and deregulation. Of course, the deregulation that is focused on helps no one except for the leaders of companies to line their own pockets with more profits.

Lower taxes are almost never good for the economy.
    Less money for public services.
Pushes the burden onto the 99% (and more so the 90%, even more so the bottom 50%).
Most of the tax savings go to the rich, which they squirrel away in offshore accounts, luxury yachts are other bullcrap that does not help the economy.

Deregulation? You covered it pretty well.
Except one thing, it also makes things more dangerous.
    Fewer safety regulations.
    Fewer financial safeguards.

Deregulating the financial industry in 1999 sure went great by 2008!

Happiest countries in the world, year in and year out, are Finland, Sweden, Norway, etc.
These countries have among the highest taxes in the world.
They also have low unemployment and homelessness, quality "free" (taxes) healthcare, social safety net for the elderly, top 15 nation education attainment, operative systems working to counteract climate change, etc.
Oh, and a MUCH narrower spread in income distribution.

It's not so much how much citizens pay in taxes, but how effectively the tax money is applied.

Boot straps don't fund education, heathcare, fire protection or cover the cost of road matainance and snow removal in low density, rural areas. Or urban potholes.

Are you about the "me" or "we"?

“In 1932, when civilization stood at another fork in the road, the United States chose liberal democracy, and Franklin Roosevelt, who promised “a new deal for the American people.” In his first 100 days, Mr. Roosevelt. signed 99 executive orders, and Congress passed more than 75 laws, beginning the work of rebuilding the country by establishing a series of government agencies to regulate the economy, provide jobs, aid the poor and construct public works.

Mr. Musk is attempting to go back to that fork and choose a different path.”

Once upon a time we had a top marginal tax rate of 94% from 1944 to about 1970 and had the largest shrinkage of wealth inequality and boom for the middle class that this country has seen

In fact to even consider that top marginal tax rates were higher AFTER the Bush and Reagan Tax cuts shows how backwards we've come in such a short period of time.

So do those stores have to rename themselves "Two Dollars and Four Cents Tree", "Family Two Dollars and Four Cents" and "Two Dollars and Four Cents General"?

I hope you’re enjoying the fascist regime threatening to deport American citizens to an El Salvador prison because they disagree with Trump.

    cancer cluster,
    Maternal and Child Health Branch,
National Center for HIV, Viral Hepatitis, STD and TB Prevention,
    et al
programs have been shut down by the HHS and the CDC.

If anything mattered anymore Ron Desantis and his wife would be in jail now for stealing $10 Million dollars from tax payer medicaid money and diverting (aka STOLE) into their to their own charity where it disappeared so they could funnel it to wherever they wanted without oversight.

    Your GOP in 2025.

Libertarians are grifters. The government isn’t of the people, for the people and by the people. For them it’s another thing to cheat and steal from.

    Seconded.
Rahm Emanuel would gift the election and, likely, control of the Senate to the Republicans.
Maybe he is planning on running AS a Republican.
