The Bike & Roll folks must have had a contracts person that nobody liked to deal with because it's the only explanation that I can think of for what happened to them. They were in Hyde Park under the Metra tracks at 53rd and running a needed bike store. Then the U of C terminated their lease and had Ancien Bikes open there. They weren't open more than a couple years. B&R operated the McDonald's Bike Center for years, and then the City did the same thing as the U of C. In both cases, from what the grapevine told me, B&R wanted to keep operating. Weird.
I should run for office. Can you blackmail a tv company into giving you free air time by saying “I’ll donate the money to a charity of your choosing but if you don’t you get nothing?” Then humble brag about my chairability and just say something along the lines of “I can’t guarantee anything will actually change if you vote for me. But I guarantee it won’t if you vote for someone who’s sole argument is criticizing me then I guarantee you it won’t.” I’m really sick of these ads. Are they run by that super pro life lady?
What a complete ********ing idiot. “The mayor also said that it was an overstatement to refer to the Proud Boys as an antisemitic, anti-gay, far-right group whose leaders have been charged with sedition in connection to the Jan. 6 insurrection.” https://news.wttw.com/2022/10/18/li...police-officer-who-lied-about-ties-proud-boys
As much of a bumbling mess as Lightfoot has been involving all things CPD, that's a pretty blatant mischaracterization of what she actually said by the WTTW reporter. You can see the full question/quote at 17:47. I have difficulty listening to that woman speak so I won’t watch the video but I did take note of the fact that she was paraphrased and not quoted.
someone on reddit pointed this out so I can't take the credit. Still, Twitter is going apeshit over this and I haven't seen anyone reference the video.
On a tangent (or perhaps the "What Movie Are You Watching" thread), I just got back from seeing "Punch 9", about Harold Washington. Not a perfect doc, but a DAMN good piece of work about the Man and the city. Lotta flashbacks there.
I know this has nothing to do with Chicago but why do you not want to support Ukraine based on this tweet?
It’s 2022. Why the ******** is anyone basing their political beliefs off the Bible? You’d have better luck using a book by Steve-O. Also is religious extremism making a comeback now that Russia has basically state sponsored homophohia? It’s pretty ********ed over their right now. Watch this Russian guy on YouTube exiled in Georgia atm and am kinda jealous of his future. Is that how bad America has become?
Election Day! I've just finished my shift as an election official. We were at 45% turnout by 12:30 when I left. The town clerk estimates 78-84% turnout by the end of the day. Sounds good that so many are participating in the democratic process. Too bad they will largely vote for people hell bent on ending democracy. If Tim Michels wins the Wisconsin Governorship, he promised that no Democrat would ever win a statewide election again. Ron Johnson has never been a fan of democracy. Both have very strong chances of winning. Johnson more than Michels. I really want to be wrong.
You’re not wrong. This country had a decent run as a democracy, constitutional republic, whatever the hell the political science dweebs and message board scholars wanna call it, but I mean, we were thisclose to a damn coup after the last presidential election and the shit that has happened since then up to and including today are making it less and less likely that a coup (or at least a violent one) will ever be necessary. I don’t see how we survive the 2024 election intact, and I’m not really sure we’ll even make it that far. The next few days will be interesting as we see results disputed and distorted, and who can really say how violently the armed asshats that “love our country” but not a good deal of the people in it will react to it all. I mean, yeah, I voted, but you know, what else am I supposed to do?
My partner voted for the very first time, having become a citizen in July. Yeah, democracy. The way things are going, it might be the last time for her.
True, but most self-described Libertarian's I know can spell "Libertarian". I know some Trumplican's who couldn't find the correct spelling using Google.
