Chicago 1 High School Kids 2 Well, actually, the US U-17 team. But they're all still in high school. Don't let their whining excuses fool you, they played their starters for the first 45 minutes, and Freddy Adu, all of 13 YEARS OLD, still lights them up for 2 goals. http://www.chicago-fire.com/pressbox/pressrelease/releasetext.asp?prID=1196
No, really. What do you say when your favorite professional soccer team gets abused by a 13 year old and a few of his friends, most of whom probably aren't even old enough to drive? Hey, at least you guys were able to score one.
What starters NO Bocanegra, NO Beasley, NO Armas, NO Razov, NO Faria so waite to we have All our starter then you could talk.
if you count c.j. brown and kelly gray and zach thornton as being all of chicagos starters then yes that statement is accurate. otherwise only a dallas burn fan would believe something that stupid.
But we'll survive without Nowak. Guys, he was in the league for five years. He was constantly on the Best XI. Learn to spell his freakin name.
Re: Re: Chicago "Fire Sale" vs. high school team It is so sad that we are here trying to defend why a PROFESSIONAL team lost to an U-17 team. It does not matter if mosyly the bench played, just one goal against U17?? This is not just bad for the Fire but the whole MLS. I guess the good thing is that the future of our national team looks bright. I wander how many of these young, local talents MLS will try and keep in this league.
Re: Re: Chicago "Fire Sale" vs. high school team Zak Thornton is a starter. CJ Brown is a starter. Jim Curtin is a starter. Evan Whitfield is a starter. Jesse Marsch is a starter. Kelly Gray is a starter. I bet both Mapp and Jaqua get a whole lot of minutes this year. But, oh, wait, you're right. No DIPSY. Your team got out-scored by a 13 year old. At this point about all you can do is hope the U-17s spank DC worse than they just spanked you. Then, at least you won't be alone in your misery.
Re: Re: Re: Chicago "Fire Sale" vs. high school team I guess I don't condsider this game to have taken place between the U-17 and a PROFESSIONAL team. A lot of the players haven't ever played in a professional game. Not a lot have contracts. The only players to play the entire game who saw playing time last year was Kelly Gray and Craig Capano. Gray is only 21 and was a rookie. Capano, who I think only played 92 minutes last season is 17. I think Ring played one game last year against an A-league team. But Pearce, Dombrowski, Mapp, Futagaki, Mack, Mapp, Pause, Magee, Jaqua, Droze, Ralph, and Swenda are all new to this and there is no guarantee that they'll even be on the roster come time. I'm not too concerned with this turn out considering we were missing Faria, Razov, Bocanegra, DMB, and Perez. It sucks, but I'm not overly upset about it. Was this team that played the U-17 the Professional Fire team? IMO, no. And for goodness sakes...N-O-W-A-K
Yes, it is a bit amusing that a 13-yr old scored 2 goals against the Fire. But us Burn fans shouldn't gloat too much. Don't forget we had a similarly embarassing result of our own a few years ago. Back in 2001, the Burn lost 3-2 in the Open Cup to the Seattle Sounders Select of the PDL amateur league. And that team, while comprised mostly of college players, also had 3 high school kids on it, not to mention a coach who supposedly washed his players' uniforms. Let's hope we never see something like that again!
Re: Re: Re: Re: Chicago "Fire Sale" vs. high school team You're really reaching now. Even some of the "amateurs" you listed have experience playing on national teams above the U-17 level. You would think that a team comprised of a mixture of MLS starters, college All-Americans and players from the U-20 and U-23 teams should still be able to whup a bunch of kids not even out of high school yet. Stop with the "we didn't have our full team" excuses. An MLS squad shouldn't need their starting XI to beat a U-17 squad.
While most would frown on a loss of this nature, I look at it as making the Fire a dangerous club this year. Let's face it, pride is a strong driving force. And when a 'Fire' is lit under your azz like this, then the opposition better watch out for 'Fire-works'. OK, so I like puns... I'll give you Vaca for Faria. That's not funny.
Dallas Burn 2:3 Seattle Sounders Select aet. Come back and make fun when it's a game that means something, assbags, and not a collection of the top U17 players the USA has to offer. You know, as opposed to a collection of marginal college and okay high school players. Playing away from home. Against a first division professional club. In a competitive match. Midseason.
Your point being? We haven't lost any competitive matches to DIII or DIV clubs, um, ever. You, on the other hand, have. And while I'm sure he appreciates the comparison by you all, Greg Foise and Billy Sleeth aren't exactly Adu, Bradley, or Ashe's quality, hombre...whatever the age. History is a bitch, ain't it?
You should speak more kindly about history, considering that it's all that Chicago fans are left with these days.
I'm having a real hard time promoting the rivalry with Chicago now. After all the hard work to get the Burn and Fire playing more games against each other, a change in schedule structuring has us playing only twice. Add the fact that they have Faria, and it takes the steam out of it for me. Eesh, even if we DID trade Vaca for Faria, I'd have a hard time disliking Chicago because of Vaca. Why can't all MLS players be jerks? "Remember the Brimestone... RIP"
2 games just makes each game worth more. Hate us, don't hate us, you're still scum of the earth in our book. PS: You know, temporarily having possession of the trophy, you'd think you all would be able to at least spell its name correctly.
